Teen Mom fans have been speculating for a long time that Kailyn Lowry quietly welcomed a fifth child sometime last year, and now, we finally have the update we've been waiting for. In a new interview with People, Kailyn officially confirmed the birth of baby No. 5 and took the opportunity to share the sex and the name she and boyfriend Elijah Scott chose for their little one. It's official: Kailyn is now the mom of five boys.
While talking to People, she revealed that her fifth son, Rio, arrived last year, joining big brothers Isaac, Lincoln, Lux, and Creed.
And though she and Elijah hadn't been planning to have a child together, Kailyn called her baby a "pleasant surprise."
"As chaotic as it was finding out about being pregnant again, he's been such an incredible baby that it really was a true light at the end of a really dark year for me," she told the magazine.
As private as her pregnancy and birth were, the news didn't stay as quiet as she'd hoped.
After sharing previous pregnancies and births on Teen Mom, this time around, Kailyn wanted to do things her own way. But thanks to a leak from the hospital, the news of her baby's birth still spread.
"I feel like it was ripped out from under me time and time again," she said. "I kind of feel like my hands are tied. People are announcing it for me and so, at this point, I might as well just talk about it. At this point, I can at least try to do it my way."
These days, she's trying to adjust to life without the MTV cameras.
Last year, Kail walked away from Teen Mom after more than a decade filming the show, and she also shared what an "adjustment" it's been for her to live life without being followed by cameras.
"I'm trying to just get used to the normalcy and being able to go out and kind of move around and move about freely, run my errands freely, schedule appointments freely. That's been nice. And I'll just stay busy with motherhood and the podcast," she said.
Kail also opened up about her son's 'traumatizing' birth on her podcast.
On a new episode of her Barely Famous podcast that premiered on Friday morning, Kail revealed that she only got to hold baby Rio for "maybe three seconds" before he was rushed off to the NICU.
"I’m like, 'He almost died.' And Elijah’s like, 'No, Kail, he went to the NICU.' To me, I’m like, 'That’s near death.' It was traumatizing for me," she said.
