White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has her own set of supporters and critics, and both showed up big time on social media after she shared a video of herself holding a press briefing with kids. The idea was clearly to show another side of the Trump administration and to share a light-hearted look at the usual intense press room at the White House.
Instead, though, after Leavitt posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), people came for her in the comments. Even though some thought the video was pretty adorable and even uplifting, others were quick to point out how Leavitt has failed as press secretary in other ways. For many, it was a chance to once again point out what they see as shortcomings for the press secretary.
Karoline Leavitt’s kid-friendly press conference backfired in some ways.
My favorite briefing yet! ❤️ https://t.co/DuWdNqZBZM

Leavitt shared a video on May 20, 2025, from her special briefing at the White House in honor of Bring Your Kids to Work Day. Which is apparently, still a thing. Who knew? In the video that Leavitt shared to her account on X, she takes questions from kids, most of which are pretty easy for her to answer.
One child asks if President Donald Trump likes to give hugs. Another asks about Trump’s favorite food. Another question one of the kids asks is what superpower Trump would have if could have any.
After one girl asks, “Which is Donald Trump’s favorite president besides himself?” there is polite laughter and chatter, but most of the questions are what you’d expect from kids.
One kid does ask how many people Trump has fired, to which Leavitt replies, one. After clips of the press briefing were shared elsewhere on X, people left comments to share their disdain with what many saw as a publicity stunt from the White House.
“What’s Donald Trump going to do about climate change? Well, umm… cut all the initiatives, frack more, allow corporations to dump more toxic sludge in our water supply and ummmm…. Yeah,” one user commented on a thread on X.
Another user replied to a post about the press conference and wrote, “This is the only way @PressSec Karoline Leavitt can get through a press briefing without being made a fool of? Infants asking her questions!”
When someone shared a video from the briefing on TikTok, more commenters shared their thoughts on the softball questions from the kids and on Leavitt’s responses.
“She was actually nice today, must have been so hard for her,” one user wrote.
Someone else commented, “Watching this unfold from England is so bizarre. Are they trying to model his whole term on 1930s Germany?”

Many of Karoline Leavitt’s supporters came to her defense.
Despite some individuals being less than impressed with Leavitt’s Q&A session with the kids at the White House, her original post on X resulted in plenty of supportive comments from people who loved her conversation with the children – even if much of it was likely rehearsed or planned out in some way.
“What a beautiful way to publicly bring the importance of family into President Trump’s administration. Well done, Karoline,” one person commented.
Another wrote, “You did a wonderful job! Thank you for your grace and dignity. You respected the kiddos, and that is amazing. May God bless you!”
Despite the split response on Leavitt’s White House press conference with kids, it definitely got people talking.
