After years on reality TV, Kate Gosselin of Jon & Kate Plus 8 seems to be opting for a quieter life. The mom of eight has not posted on Instagram since May 12, 2024, but she was thrust into the spotlight again months later when her son Collin Gosselin accused her of abuse. As for what she’s been up to since then, Kate reportedly has renewed her nursing license and is living in North Carolina.
Kate still has a relationship with most of her kids, but some of them have moved away.
While starring on Jon & Kate Plus 8 in 2009, Kate and her ex-husband Jon Gosselin announced their decision to get divorced. After their split, lots of family drama ensued. Recently, Jon revealed that he and his ex-wife haven’t spoken to each other in years. “We don’t communicate,” Jon recently told E! News. “I think the last time I heard her voice in person was, like, 2018.”
In 2018, two of their sextuplets, Hannah and Collin, moved in with Jon. Twins Mady and Cara lived with their mom until they moved away for college. It’s believed that the other four the former couple’s sextuplets — Aaden, Joel, Alexis, and Leah — live with Kate.
In 2024, Collin accused Kate of abuse.
During an interview with The U.S. Sun, Collin alleged that his mom “isolated” him from his siblings growing up. He claimed that he had “no relationship with anybody,” and the isolation got even worse when his mother allegedly “had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement.”
He described being locked in that room as a child. “She had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me,” he alleged at the time.
Jon has defended some of Collin’s claims about Kate. When Collin was 11 years old, he was admitted to a behavioral health facility. He said the experience was “very scary” at the time, especially because he “didn’t know where [he] was.”
A year before these allegations came to light, Kate shared a statement about Collin on Instagram.
In the statement, Kate claimed that she loves Collin “with all [her] heart,” but said he was sent to a behavioral health facility due to “multiple psychiatric diagnoses” and “many attacks/outbursts.” Additionally, she said the decision was made “for the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being.”
Later in the post, she alleged that Collin’s “unpredictable and violent behaviors” have “sadly continued regularly towards Jon, Hannah, and others around him.”
“Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help,” Kate continued at the time. “His brothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies toward us.”
On social media, many people criticized Kate’s parenting and called her out for sharing that information about her son publicly. “You never post this about your own child,” one person wrote on Instagram. “This is not the public’s business.” Another person called Kate’s statement “absolutely distasteful.”
Now, Kate seems to be working an ordinary job and staying out of the spotlight.
In her most recent Instagram post, which was posted in May 2024, Kate celebrated Alexis, Leah, Aaden, and Joel’s 20th birthdays. “No more teenagers in this house!” she wrote at the time. “Happy 20th birthday, my forever babies! I love you! Who feels old? I know I do!”
Even that post garnered a significant amount of backlash. One critic commented: “Kate Plus 8????? You abandoned the 8th. What kind of mother does that??”
Now, Kate seems to be trying to stay out of the spotlight. On March 3, 2025, The U.S. Sun reported that Kate has renewed her nursing license, which expires in 2027. She is reportedly living in North Carolina.
It’s possible Kate’s feeling a bit lonely.
With her reality TV days behind her, Kate is “living a quiet life.” In 2024, a source told In Touch that Kate’s lifestyle changes might not be entirely positive, as she has “hardly any friends and only some of her kids to talk to.”
The insider added, “her life is nothing like it once was.”
