What to Know
Kate Middleton has been out and about this week! Not only was she part of a reception celebrating a cancer charity, but she also stopped by a cancer center called the Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. The Princess of Wales was all smiles while meeting with people, but apparently, that’s the problem — some people think she looked a little too happy, and they are demanding answers.
Kate is being called “manic” now that the new photos are out there.
What could be causing these manic faces?

In certain photos from her most recent appearances, the camera caught Kate looking a bit… too happy. Her wide eyes and huge grin were enough to spark a discussion on Reddit, where one person described her expression as “manic faces.”
Kate is usually very smiley — after all, it’s not like the future queen of England is allowed to look bored while meeting with her constituents — but this really seems to be bringing the idea of “happy” to a whole different level, and people have a few different theories about what might be causing it.
Some people are blaming weight loss and drugs.
Kate’s apparent weight loss over the past several months has a way of coming up in conversation on a regular basis, and this time is no exception. Some who commented on the post believe her face looks more hollowed and thin, giving her eyes the appearance of “bugging out.”
Others are ready to blame drugs, though — something that Kate has never publicly had a problem with, for the record.
“My goodness, there is no denying her pupils definitely appear [dilated],” one person wrote.
Another commenter contributed, “Drugs? She’s not getting energy from food so [gotta] pop those pills.”
The Botox accusations are rampant, too.
Some people think the strange facial expressions could be due to a recent cosmetic procedure like a facelift or an upper bleph, or it could even be something as innocuous as too much Botox that hasn’t quite settled where it needs to go.
“I think Botox is a big factor here. She wants to show she’s happy and emoting but her forehead can’t really move,” one person wrote.
Kate likely has an intense (and expensive) anti-aging skincare routine, but she has never officially owned up to getting Botox, though it would hardly be scandalous if she did — it seems like everyone is getting some type of injections these days, so who cares if she does, too?
Hopefully, all is well with Kate, regardless of what might have been going on with her face this week. In the end, she might just have been feeling particularly enthusiastic. Is it a crime to love your job so much that your eyes almost pop out of your head?
