After the difficult year that Kate Middleton and Prince William just lived through as she battled cancer, the couple has a new outlook on their relationship – at least, as far as what they share of it publicly. A royal insider told People that Will and Kate’s bond is stronger than ever, and after surviving what they’ve been through, they have a new lease on their marriage.

Earlier this month, Kate revealed that she’s in remission, but before that, she was undergoing chemotherapy for a cancer diagnosis she shared publicly last spring. When the Princess of Wales turned 43 on January 9, the couple’s official social media accounts wished her a happy birthday with a heartfelt note from William – a far more personal message than they’ve shared before.
“To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you. W,” he wrote.
Some people were taken aback by the message, but according to multiple royal sources, it’s all part of the openness that Will and Kate feel more comfortable sharing these days.
“William must feel so fortunate that Kate has come through this that he wants to tell the world about that love. It shows the intimacy of them sharing that journey together,” royal expert Ingrid Seward told People. “They are able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before.”

Now, Kate is looking forward to taking the next steps of a more normal life.
“She has drawn a line under the last year, and she can move forward,” a source close to the royals said. “The word ‘remission’ is such a positive one to use, and it just feels a veil has been lifted on their life of the last year, and that they can move forward with positivity and hope.”
And even though it does seem like Kate is excited to get back to work (and make more public appearances this year than she was able to make last year), her focus remains on her family above all else.
“For the princess, family – her husband and children – are more important than anything else,” an insider shared, per People.
It’s good to see that Kate is doing so much better this year. And after what she’s been through, she deserves all the public adoration in the world from her husband.
