Kate Middleton Is Facing ‘Major Shifts’ This Summer As She Prepares To Be Queen

Kate Middleton may have returned to work less than a year ago after entering remission from cancer, but it sounds like she’s already busy – especially when it comes to preparing for her future role as queen. According to what royal sources have told People in a new story published Tuesday, Kate’s summer is set to be filled with changes and “major shifts” as she continues to step into the royal spotlight even more than she is already.

Big things are happening behind palace doors.

Because King Charles‘ cancer is now considered a “managed” health condition, a friend of the royals told People that Kate and Prince William are busy working out the kinks of their game plan for taking the throne, including forming a team of advisors they can trust when they become king and queen eventually.

“There are some major shifts coming behind the scenes,” the friend said. “They are really finessing what works and what doesn’t.”

At this point, Kate may be the most powerful royal.

Kate has long been considered the most popular royal, and not only has that not changed, but it’s also given her a bit of extra social capital after she scaled back her public appearances over the past year, as royal biographer Catherine Mayer told the news outlet.

“She was already the only working royal left with any special pulling power. Now her scarcity means that it has risen,” she said. “She is the one who generates excitement. For her, less is actually more.”

She’ll be seeking as much downtime this summer as she can get, though.

During George, Charlotte, and Louis’ summer break, it sounds like Will and Kate are planning to spend as much quality family time as possible amid their busy schedules, which may include a little travel and time spent at Balmoral per royal tradition.

Royal expert Sally Bedell Smith said, “They have a quiet life out in Norfolk, with a lot of freedom to go to places like the beach, and no one bothers them.”

Kate is seen as an inspiration by everyone who knows her.

“She’s inspiring many people who have suffered similar health issues,” a source close to the royals told People. “She has been open and transparent about her cancer journey and demonstrated how you can get on with your life. It is wonderful to see. I don’t think you ever recover fully from what Kate has had to endure this last year. She has always been a huge asset to the royal family, but even more so now.”
