Kate Middleton Hits Major Fashion Milestone at France State Visit

Kate Middleton has always been known for the way she sends messages through her fashion choices, and her latest royal appearance is no exception. When Kate and husband Prince William greeted French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, after they arrived in the UK for their official state visit, she wore Dior for the very first time as a royal. Truly, what could have been a more perfect occasion?

As People reported, Kate wore Dior’s pale pink 30 Montaigne Rose Des Vents Bar Jacket to meet the Macrons at RAF Northolt – a piece conceived by the brand’s first female designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri, that was based on an original design by Christian Dior himself.

Her accessories were also meaningful, paying tribute to two royal ladies who came before her. She wore earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana and added a pearl necklace passed down by Queen Elizabeth.

Her style choice wasn’t just about looking good for the occasion, though. As People also pointed out, Kate was making a statement: Considering what a big part of France’s culture and fashion history Dior has been, she was also paying tribute (and showing respect) to the Macrons and the people of France.

After meeting them at Northolt, Will and Kate joined the Macrons on their journey to Windsor Castle, where they were greeted by King Charles and Queen Camilla. Once they arrived, they took part in a carriage processional, and Emmanuel and Brigitte’s arrival was celebrated with a lot of pomp and circumstance, including a royal salute and the French national anthem.

This afternoon, the president and his wife had lunch at Windsor Castle with the royals, and on Tuesday evening, they will attend a banquet hosted by the king, who is expected to give a speech.

The royals have already shared footage from the Macrons’ arrival on Instagram, and there’s no doubt more photos and videos are still to come as their first day in the UK continues.
