What to Know
Prince George is less than a month away from his 13th birthday, and he’s already practicing fulfilling the duties he’ll be responsible for when he’s king someday. On Saturday, he joined mom Kate Middleton on an engagement to honor Armed Forces Day, and after the royals shared footage from the visit online, people can’t stop talking about how Kate looks genuinely happy for the first time in a long time.
Prince George joined Kate for a visit to RAF Coningsby.
A post that was shared by Kate and Prince William‘s official Instagram account on Saturday showed her and her oldest son visiting RAF Coninsby in honor of Armed Forces Day. There’s no doubt that the Royal Air Force is important to their family — during his time in the military, William served as a pilot.
“Marking Armed Forces Day by reflecting on time spent with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby,” said the caption. “Learning about the extraordinary history of these aircraft and meeting the pilots and engineers who keep their legacy alive. A powerful reminder of the courage, skill and dedication of those who serve, past and present. Thank you to all those who have served and continue to serve.”
People are struck by just how much Kate looks like herself again.

The Instagram video included a shot of Kate and George posing for a photo together during their day out, and both of them look relaxed and natural — just like any mom and son hanging out together might.
The photo of them is so nice that people on Reddit couldn’t help but notice that Kate actually looks like herself again for the first time in a very long time.
“This is the best photo I’ve seen in ages. Hair is normal, clothes not too fussy, smile actually natural,” one Redditor wrote.
Another commented, “This is a lovely photo of Kate and her son. I didn’t think that woman was capable of feeling genuine happiness, but she does seem to feel that when she’s with her kids and can actually be candid (well, I mean, as candid as a royal can be… so only slightly posed).”
Say what you want about Kate, but there’s never seemed to be a debate about how much she loves her kids.
George has grown so much.

It’s wild to see that George is almost taller than his mom — he’ll be looking down at her soon!
In just a few weeks, he’ll officially be a teenager, and less than two months after that, he’ll be off to Eton College to follow in his dad’s academic footsteps at the all boys boarding school William once attended.
Maybe we’ll start seeing George at more royal engagements like these now that he’s getting older. How has the time flown by this fast?!
