Kate Middleton & Prince William’s Reported School Plans for Charlotte Are Dividing Royal Watchers

It’s really hard to believe that Princess Charlotte will soon be at the age when she’ll likely be attending a prestigious boarding school. At just eleven-years-old, there’s already been some chatter about where Charlotte might end up attending secondary school. Will it be the same school that her 13-year-old brother, Prince George, will attend? There’s been talk about Eton College for him, which is the same Berkshire boarding school that Prince William attended. It’s probably a little too soon to say, but there have been reports that Prince William and Kate Middleton were seen touring Oundle Boarding School with Charlotte in early May.

According to Marie Claire, in a surprising move to royal family watchers, Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted bringing Princess Charlotte to visit at Northhampshire’s Oundle School on May 1, 2026.

Even though there were recent rumors swirling about the future King and Queen taking Prince George to visit this institution as an option for his secondary school, an Oundle resident told the magazine that it was actually Charlotte who came for a visit this spring.

“It was actually Charlotte that they are looking to enroll here. They visited the headmaster’s home next door to me,” the Oundle resident told Marie Claire. The royal source also shared that the threesome were seen taking a proper tour of the school and having lunch at Dryden’s House, which is a girl’s boarding house for teens between the ages of 13 and 18 years old. Pretty exciting stuff.

If they have somewhere picked out for Charlotte already, where are they touring with Prince George?

In case you’re curious about where Prince George might attend, since he will be 13 in summer 2026, Marie Claire reported that he will be soon wrapping up his education at Berkshire’s Lambrook School and possibly be attending Eton College in the fall, which is quite close to Windsor Castle.

And even though there were rumblings about arranging a tour of the Oundle School with George, it turned out that it was likely a top choice for Charlotte. There’s also been whispers about Kate’s alma mater, Marlborough College and Wellington College being contenders for George’s secondary school education.

All of this secondary school speculation seemed to disrupt the predictions that online critics tend to make, especially in this Reddit thread. One person in the comments seemed to think that Eton College is a great choice for Prince George due to the connections he could make there. “Eton is so close. Obviously William went there and it is an excellent school. Definitely a place to network with the future MPs and government leaders that will be in office as George presumably ascends the throne,” they wrote.

The Reddit comments are divided on the children’s boarding school plans.

There are a number of redditors who can’t seem to wrap their mind around Prince William and Kate sending their kids away to school because even though it’s a good education, it still separates the family unit. One person shared, “There goes the argument that Kate wants them at school together, unless George is actually also going to Oundle.” Who knows? Both George and Charlotte could end up at Oundle together.

Another person wrote, “Really don’t get the appeal of boarding school. I thought they wanted their kids to grow up somewhat normal and as a ‘unit’?” Another individual in the comments put things rather bluntly by saying, “Boarding all three of them” makes me immediately think of a kennel for dogs.” Another person couldn’t help but wonder, “What is it with the Windsors off loading their kids. And we wonder why the family is so emotionally f—– up.”

There are several comments about the appeal of sending your child to a boarding school as it’s not as routine in North America. One person shared, “Why do wealthy people send their kids to boarding school? It sounds horrible, my mum use to threaten to send my brother and I to boarding school when we were not behaving well, but she didn’t mean it.” Another individual shed some light on the topic. “It’s a networking thing. and it’s tradition for the old money aristo types. it’s just the way it is,” they wrote.

Where do you think everyone will end up? There’s still a few years to go for Charlotte, but we’ll likely hear the family’s choice for Prince George very shortly.
