Kate Middleton & Prince William Are Under Fire From PETA for Breeding Their Dog Orla

Kate Middleton and Prince William might have thought they were sharing a fun family moment, but as it turns out, it’s led to a lot of criticism. After the Prince and Princess of Wales confirmed that their black cocker spaniel, Orla, has welcomed puppies recently in an Instagram post, Will and Kate are coming under fire from animal rights activists who have been quick to point out that there are already plenty of homeless pets in the United Kingdom as it is. PETA is not happy about this!

It all started with a photo Kate shared to celebrate William’s birthday.

Weeks after the earliest reports claimed their family dog had welcomed puppies, this adorable update was confirmed when Kate shared a photo of William sitting in the grass, surrounded by the little dogs (and appearing to love every second of it).

It seems that the Wales family is really getting a kick out of the puppies. But PETA was unimpressed.

PETA made a statement about the puppies.

According to People, PETA Vice President of Programs Elisa Allen shared a statement in response to the news of Orla’s puppies.

“The Prince and Princess of Wales should know that shelters here and worldwide are overflowing with puppies desperate for a second chance at a loving home, and that churning out a litter in the midst of this animal homelessness crisis is staggeringly out of touch,” she said.

Instead, when it comes to responsible pet ownership, Allen suggested that the couple take some advice from Will’s father.

“If William is going to lead, he might well take a lesson from King Charles and Queen Camilla, who have chosen to adopt from a shelter rather than contribute to the problem,” she added.

Now, it sounds like Will and Kate may be planning to keep one.

The Daily Mail‘s royal editor, Rebecca English, reported that one of Orla’s puppies may be staying for good.

“It’s one of the reasons, I am told, that [Kate] and Prince William have decided to breed from their adored spaniel, Orla,” she said. “Not only has it been something fun for the children to look forward to, but I am told they are planning to keep one of the pups.”

If this is true, we are definitely going to need pictures!
