What to Know
Kate Middleton‘s romance with Prince William has always seemed nothing short of a royal fairytale — meeting at university, falling in love, and celebrating with an elaborate wedding that was watched by the entire world? It’s no wonder that rumors that she tried to plot the entire thing herself have followed Kate for years. But now, a video has resurfaced that is clearing up at least some of the rumors that Kate had her eye on William a lot earlier than their first meeting at St. Andrews.
There have been rumors that teenage Kate had a crush on William for a long time.

It seems like the rumors all began with one of Kate’s former classmates from undergrad, Jessica Hay, talking to different news outlets about what the future princess was like in her more formative years. The two went to the same boarding school, and not only did Jessica claim that Kate hung photos of William up on he walls years before they’d ever meet in person, but also that she was so besotted with him that she was known for saying, “there’s no one quite like William,” according to My London.
Teenage Kate would have hardly been the first to have a crush on Princess Diana‘s oldest son — after all, centerfold posters of him were once the norm in almost any teen magazine you’d pick up in the ’90s. But then again, none of the other girls who had pictures of him on their bedroom walls would grow up to actually marry him.
She actually set the record straight a long time ago, but apparently, some people forgot.
Kate herself has shut down these rumors before, even though that part of the story always seems to get left out. But now, the video of the moment she said that Hay’s claims were untrue — which took place during her engagement interview with William, right after he popped the question — has resurfaced all over again.
During one part of the 18-minute interview, Kate is asked if she actually did have posters of William plastered all over her bedroom walls.
At first, William answered for her, joking, “There wasn’t just one. There was like, 10, 20.” But of course, Kate didn’t let him get away with that. Instead, she corrected him, saying, “He wishes. No, I had the Levi’s guy on my wall, not a picture of William, sorry.”
The couple is getting ready to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary.

Posters or no posters, the Prince and Princess of Wales have proven that their love is one that lasts, and on April 29, they will celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary. It’s wild to think about how much time has already passed… and how much has happened in the world (and in the British monarchy) since the day we all tuned in to see them walk down the aisle.
Even after almost two decades together, they still seem pretty happy. That’s definitely something to celebrate.
