Saturday, June 21, marked an important day in the British royal family: Prince William, the future king of England, turned 43. In honor of the occasion, Kate Middleton took to the family’s official Instagram account to share a sweet tribute to her husband, confirming a rumor about the family at the same time.
In the photo, the Prince of Wales is dressed down in jeans and a casual shirt and is sitting in the grass, surrounded by adorable black cocker spaniel puppies.
“Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!” said the caption on the post.
Last month, The Sun reported that the family’s dog, Orla, had welcomed a litter of puppies, but this is the first time that the couple is confirming the exciting news themselves.
At the time, a source told the outlet “mother and babies are doing well,” and that it wasn’t clear who the father of Orla’s puppies might be. Unsurprisingly, George, Charlotte, and Louis are “very excited” about the new additions. After seeing just how cute the puppies are, who could really blame them?
Despite the sweet post from the Princess of Wales, King Charles‘ official Instagram account did not send William well wishes. But according to what the king’s former royal gardener, Jack Stooks, told Marie Claire, that’s not unusual.
“Maybe a phone call or a small gift,” he said. “They’re not really into big birthday lunches or public displays unless it’s a milestone one.”
But that might not be true in a few years, when William celebrates a major milestone birthday.
“When William turns 50, I imagine there’ll be a bigger deal made, like a proper party, maybe hosted at Buckingham Palace, and the press will be told about it,” Jack said. “But for now, it’ll probably just be a quiet acknowledgment from the king.”
