Kate Middleton Breaks St. Patrick’s Day Tradition With Her Bold Fashion Choice

The Prince and Princess of Wales were dressed to impress on Friday as they celebrated St. Patrick's Day. Kate Middleton opted to forgo the traditional green ensemble she usually wears as she served as the colonel of the Irish Guards for the first time. We have to admit, she is rocking that turquoise!

Kate joined the troops at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, England.

According to Page Six, Kate spent the rainy Friday greeting the troops gathered for the event and giving out shamrocks.

Plenty of people received a fistful of the traditional St. Patty's Day plant, including an Irish Wolf Hound mascot named Mรณr (aka Seamus).

Not even the dreary weather could keep the princess from smiling as she chatted with guests.

This isn't the first time Kate skipped the green.

Although she's normally preferred wearing hunter green as she's participated in events on the holiday, Kate has worn colors in the non-emerald family before. In 2015, while pregnant with Princess Charlotte, Kate celebrated in a chocolate brown number.

It's clear that Kate looks gorgeous no matter what color she's wearing, but we are really digging the change this year.

This year marks a couple of firsts for the mother of three.

Not only was this the first time Kate served as colonel โ€” a position passed on from Prince William after King Charles took over as head of the monarchy โ€” but it's also her first year attending as a princess.

Kate received her formal new title shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022.

Kate also made time for some of the littlest parade spectators.

Kate got some special face time with two little girls โ€” Aoife and Alice, daughters of Warrant Officer Class 2 Alistair Wigley โ€” while she was there.

She bent down so she was eye to eye with the nervous girls and commented on their matching broaches, according to Express.

She and William capped off the exciting day by enjoying a pint of Guinness.

What would St. Patrick's Day be without a toast? The royals sipped beer with the troops โ€” and from the looks of things, shared a few laughs โ€” before heading out.

It looks like a good time was had by all, despite the rainy weather. That's probably especially refreshing, considering the royals had to skip the parade for a few years during the pandemic. It looks like they're back to business as usual and loving every moment of it.
