Kathy Griffin Files for Divorce After 3 Years of Marriage

In the world of celebrity gossip, some things are just traditions. We all know that news about celebrity babies, engagements, marriages, and divorce are always big stories, no matter what time of year they come out. That doesn't stop celebrities from dropping their divorce news in the week between Christmas and New Year's Day, allegedly in the hopes they'll get less attention during this slower time of year. It seems like every year at least one celebrity reveals that they've called it quits before New Year's Day, and this year is no different.

This year, comedienne Kathy Griffin is joining the end-of-year split club. Griffin filed for divorce from Randy Bick, her husband of almost four years, in California on December 28, citing that classic reason of "irreconcilable differences." This split comes just days before their upcoming anniversary. The pair was married on January 1, 2020, after announcing their engagement on New Year's Eve in 2019.

The couple has a prenup in place.

This will be the second divorce for Kathy, who was married to Matt Moline from 2001 to 2006. According to the Associated Press, Kathy noted in her divorce filing that there is a prenuptial agreement in place, dated from 2019. She is asking the court to enforce it as their case moves forward.

The couple do not have children.

Kathy took to Instagram to comment on the news.

Shortly after the news of her divorce was shared by TMZ, Kathy posted a simple message that "This sucks," presumably about the situation.

Even though the pair have only been married just under four years, their relationship began in 2011, so this is the end of more than a decade of togetherness. Bick, who works as a marketing executive, has yet to publicly comment about the split.

Kathy is scheduled to go on tour in early 2024.

In November 2023, Kathy announced that she'll be going on the road for her first comedy tour in over six years. She shared that "Looking back on the past 6 1/2 years, I wasn’t sure a tour would be in the cards for me… To those of you who continued to watch and support me throughout my career, words can’t describe how grateful I am feeling. Cheers to My Life On The PTSD-List 2024."

There's nothing like a fresh divorce to give a comedian some spicy material for a new tour, but no word yet if Kathy plans to cover the split in her act.

Kathy isn't the only celeb who just announced a pre-New Year's Day split.

Country singer Zac Brown and wife Kelly Yazdi also announced their divorce this week. The pair, who've only been married for four months, confirmed to TMZ that "We are in the process of divorce. Our mutual respect for one another remains. We wish each other the best and will always appreciate our time together. As we navigate this personal matter, we simply request privacy during this time."
