Katy Perry recently celebrated her 41st birthday, and people are calling her out for flaunting her wealth — not because of an extravagant celebration, but because of the way she carelessly wasted an entire birthday cake. In a clip shared on social media, Katy can be seen blowing out the candles on her birthday cake backstage while surrounded by crew members. Her crew members clapped after she blew out the candles, then she proceeded to pick up the cake and try to throw it at someone.
The person she was trying to throw the cake at managed to duck at just the right time, so the whole cake landed on the ground. Katy simply laughed in front of the cake, and some of the crew members on her Lifetimes Tour tried to eat some of the cake off the floor.
On social media, critics couldn’t believe that she would waste an entire cake so casually. People called the situation “cringe” and “disgusting,” especially because they assumed Katy likely left the cake on the ground for someone else to clean up.

“A grown 41-year-old woman not caring about the person who will clean up her mess & the person who put hard work into making that cake,” one critic wrote on X. “She needs to touch grass.” Another person said someone probably surprised Katy with a birthday cake and yet, “She straight up threw the whole thing at someone, wasting it all… this woman is actually pathetic.”
Others called Katy (and celebrities in general) out for lacking “manners” and “class” and feeling “entitled.” Someone added, “I wonder what having that mindset is like, to just throw away a whole cake everyone could’ve enjoyed… and then leaving that mess on the floor for someone else to clean up cause I know d— well she ain’t pick up no broom and mop after lol.”
But some fans actually defended Katy and didn’t see anything wrong with what she did. According to them, “It’s her cake, she can do with it as she wants after she bought it.”
The “I Kissed a Girl” singer has also recently made headlines because of her relationship with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. The pair first sparked romance rumors when they were spotted together in July 2025, and appeared to confirm their romantic relationship on Katy’s birthday.
