Keith Urban Said His Life Was ‘Lonely & Miserable’ Before Nicole Kidman Divorce

As shocking as it seemed to hear that Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman are going their separate ways after nearly 20 years of marriage, maybe we all should have seen this breakup coming. In a new interview that was conducted just before the news of their divorce went public, the country singer called his life “lonely and miserable.” Wow, Keith — tell us how you really feel!

He opened up about life as musician being a “calling.”

According to the Daily Mail, in the first episode of his competition show, The Road (which premieres on October 19), Keith talks about his life as a musician, which can often be very demanding of his time and energy.

“Where do we start? It’s a calling, and you’re going to do it or you’re not going to make it,” he says on the show.

He described his life on tour as “lonely and miserable.”

It doesn’t sound like Keith’s most recent tour has been a very pleasant experience for him.

“When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you’re sick as a dog, you’re in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got to play your fifth show later that night, and you haven’t slept, and you miss your friends, and you’re missing your family, and you’re completely lonely and miserable and sick — and you say to yourself, ‘Why am I doing this?’” he said. “The only answer can be: Because this is what I’m born to do.”

Keith’s not the only one who didn’t seem happy pre-divorce.

Nicole’s final pre-divorce interviews have been pretty illuminating, and if Keith was unhappy in their marriage before their split, he wasn’t the only one.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Nicole shared how she’s dealt with feeling like she’s a “broken” person.

“You’re going to have to feel it,” she said in the interview, which was published earlier this month. “You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly — and it can take an enormous amount of time — it does pass.”

Nicole filed for divorce on September 30.

It’s been less than a month since Nicole filed for divorce from Keith, citing irreconcilable differences. But just one day later, a source told People that their breakup was quickly becoming a bit more dramatic than expected.

“Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” the insider said at the time. “She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he’s already moved on.”
