It seems like Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra Duggar, are preparing for possible ways in which she can make money in the event that he is sentenced to time in prison. Currently, Joseph is at home after posting a $600,000 bond. But in March, while he was in jail after he was accused of molesting a nine-year-old child, he and his wife discussed some possible future plans and income sources.
Faced with the reality that Joseph might not be able to provide for their family anymore, Kendra has gotten involved in managing her husband’s company. During a March 24 phone call, he told his wife, “You make really good decisions, so I trust you,” per People.
Joseph reportedly told his wife how to run his business in his absence.
He owns and rents out properties in Arkansas. According to People, phone conversations they had while Joseph was in jail suggest that Kendra might take over. During those calls, Joseph talked to his wife about listing, cleaning, renovating, and promoting his rental properties.
He also talked to her about the websites he has used to advertise the properties and shared his advice with her. According to the publication, the couple discussed removing their personal information from the listings as well.
Apparently, some other members of the Duggar family have gotten involved, so Kendra is not alone in working on this. Joseph’s brothers Jedidiah, Jeremiah, and John-David have offered to help with the company in some capacity, too.
They talked about finances.
If convicted, Joseph might be sentenced to life in prison. He and Kendra share four children, though Kendra is currently not allowed to see them. Anna Duggar mentioned this in an email to Joseph on March 21, E! News reported. She praised Kendra for being “strong” amid everything that’s happening.
“She was strong on the phone call, except for when she talked about it being a month before she can see the kids. My heart breaks for all of you,” Anna wrote.
Kendra has told Joseph that their kids are her priority. During one call with her husband, Kendra said, “From what I hear they are doing good,” per People. She later said, “I just want you to know, through all of this, whatever happens, that’s who’s coming first.”
During one call, Joseph and Kendra seemed to have a candid conversation about whether Kendra would be able to provide for the family with income from Joseph’s rental properties. “You know, it’ll still be tight, I think, but I think you can make it on that,” Joseph told her.
The couple has talked about selling some of their possessions for extra cash.
During their conversation about money, they entertained some other options. While they seemed to agree that the rental properties could provide Kendra with a “consistent stream” of income, they also talked about selling some of their belongings.
Per People, they discussed selling items like their four-wheeler, their trailers, and a pressure washer. Additionally, Kendra has prepared to turn the home that her family’s been living in into a rental home. She reportedly moved all of their possessions out of the home and prepared to list it for rent.
