Khloé Kardashian’s 6-year-old daughter thinks her parents are married, and Khloé doesn’t see that as a problem. On a recent episode of The Kardashians, Khloé told her friend Malika Haqq that she hasn’t corrected her daughter True, whom she shares with her ex Tristan Thompson. From Khloé’s perspective, telling her daughter the truth would mean involving her in “adult problems,” which she doesn’t want to do.
Khloé said she can explain the truth to her daughter when she’s older.
“When she’s older, I can explain it to her,” Khloé said on the episode. “But right now, I believe you do things for your kids because kids should not be involved in adult problems.”
She added that she hopes her kids do get to see her in a relationship someday so they could “see love and affection and romance.”
For now, Khloé thinks she’s modeling ‘the right thing to do.’
Khloé doesn’t see much harm in her daughter thinking she’s married because she believes that getting married before having kids is the “right thing to do.”
“Get married, have kids. That’s what I want to teach her,” she explained. Malika told her that what she’s doing is “probably better” for True.
Khloé just has one concern.
Though she generally doesn’t see any harm in hiding the truth from her daughter, Khloé said she’s worried about what her relationship with Tristan might unintentionally teach True about marriage.
“The only thing that bothers me about that would be I don’t want True going through life thinking this is what a marriage is,” Khloé explained. “That you’re married to someone and they don’t live with you and you never have to kiss them, or you don’t sleep in the same bed together.”
Fans, however, called the parenting decision ‘toxic.’
Fans on Reddit worried that Khloé’s decision to keep this information from her daughter could negatively impact their relationship.
“Mother/daughter relationship destroyed in 3 … 2 … 1 …” one person wrote.
Several fans were confused about how Khloé will handle the situation in the future. They pointed out that True is going to find out the truth at some point — and then she will also know that her mom lied to her.
“It’s going to even more traumatic when she’s older and understands they were never married and her whole family dynamic was a lie,” one person commented on Reddit.
Another Redditor couldn’t understand Khloé’s logic. “I don’t see how that can be a good or healthy thing?” the person wrote. “My son is the same age and 6 year olds notice and see a lot more things than we realize.”
Others called Khloé’s decision “bizarre” and “disrespectful,” especially because she’s talking about it publicly, meaning that True could see it online one day.
“I feel like this is something that will be in true’s memoir at some point,” a Redditor hypothesized. “IDK I would be so mad if my parents lied to me about that also how will they ever be able to date other people …”
Previously, Khloé joked that her kids ‘better not talk about childhood trauma.’
Khloé shares both of her kids — True and 2-year-old Tatum — with Tristan. During a January episode of her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, Khloé jokingly said, “My kids better not talk about childhood trauma because they have the best freaking lives.” However, she admitted that “it’s going to happen” and is “inevitable.”
