What to Know
Now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been settled into their lives in California for a few years, it makes sense that their circle of celebrity friends is only growing — and has even expanded to the Kardashian family. But after photos of them celebrating Kris Jenner’s birthday party in November mysteriously disappeared from social media, we’ve never known why… until now, of course, thanks to Kim Kardashian.
Kim said her family refers to the situation as “photogate.”
During her appearance on sister Khloé Kardashian’s Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, Kim brought up the situation — something that many fans have been wondering about for over two months at this point, since the photos of the Sussexes were removed without explanation.
“It was really innocent, which is so crazy. Mom and Meghan have been friends for some years now, and they have a really sweet relationship,” Kim explained.
At first, they had permission to post the photos, and then suddenly, they didn’t.

Before including Meghan and Harry in the posts, Kim insisted that the family was told “it was totally cool to post,” but after the posts went live, the situation quickly changed.
“And then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day, and they didn’t want to be seen at a party, even though it’s already up, you know, and then taken down. And then I think they realized, like, ‘Oh, this was so silly,'” Kim said.
Remembrance Day is a solemn holiday in the United Kingdom that is dedicated to fallen members of the military, so Kim said she totally understood why they wouldn’t want pictures of them “partying and dancing on the dance floor or whatever” shared on a day like that.
Kim took the mishap in stride.
She went on to tell Khloé that when it comes to situations like this, “you got to laugh,” though her suggestion to mock the situation by doing a Skims photoshoot, posting it, and then quickly deleting it didn’t end up panning out.
“If we just made it light and made it funny, you know, I think it would have been, like, received differently, but I hated how that was received for everyone,” Kim admitted. “That sucks. It was just made into something that was so crazy and ridiculous that just didn’t have to be.”
Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like there are any hard feelings between anyone involved — the birthday girl included.
