Fans Say They’re Unfollowing Kim Kardashian After Her Melania Trump Inauguration Day Post

Kardashian fans were skeptical when, a few days before the 2024 presidential election, Kim Kardashian took to Instagram to wish Ivanka Trump a happy birthday. Some people defended her at the time because Kim and Ivanka have reportedly been friends for years. However, others called Kim’s decision to publicly celebrate Ivanka’s birthday just days before the election “a deliberate choice.” Now, after Kim posted a photo of first lady Melania Trump on Inauguration Day, some fans have said they’re done defending the Skims founder.

Kim didn’t write anything when she shared a photo of Melania.

On Monday, January 20, the day of President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Kim Kardashian shared a photo of his wife Melania to her Instagram Stories. In the photo, Melania wore a navy blue coat and a wide-brimmed hat. Kim didn’t explain why she chose to share the photo.

Some fans said they’re ‘officially done’ with Kim now.

Reacting to Kim’s post on Reddit, one fan commented they “literally just unfollowed” Kim because they “don’t need that propaganda.”

“I’m so over her,” another person wrote. “She’s so embarrassing at this point.”

For one fan who previously defended Kim, the Melania photo was the final straw. “Ok I’m officially done with her,” they wrote. “I tried to excuse her sus actions but this was all I needed. Good riddance.”

The post came as a surprise to some of Kim’s fans.

Kim did not disclose whom she voted for in 2024. In 2016, she supported former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. After former President Joe Biden won the 2020 election, Kim shared a photo of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on X with three blue hearts. Because she previously expressed support for these Democrats, the fact that Kim shared a photo of Melania Trump shocked some of her fans.

“She not even tryna hide it like wow,” one person wrote on Reddit.

“I know I shouldn’t be surprised but I am and I’m disgusted,” a second Redditor commented.

While some people were not that surprised, the news still disappointed them.

“This is the last straw,” a third person wrote. “Obviously the signs were there but this is very blatant. And gross. Ugh. It really is us against the ultra wealthy.”

Others thought Kim’s apparent support should not be surprising to people.

One Redditor pointed out that “the Kardashians will align with money/power long before they align with the people. Let’s stop being surprised.”

Others argued that Kim has not been hiding who she really is. “Ivanka is one of her closest friends, Kushner invested in Skims, she vacations with Jeff Bezos, does ads for Elon/Telsa….this is who she is lol she’s hardly hidden it,” one person wrote.

In 2021, Kim described herself as ‘a mix of both’ political parties.

Over the past few years, Kim has been an outspoken advocate for criminal justice reform. In 2024, she advocated on behalf of Erik and Lyle Menendez. In terms of her politics, though, Kim has hinted at being conservative in some ways and liberal in others. Previously, in 2021, she said, “I believe in the rights that the Democrats want, but I believe in the taxes that the Republicans want.”
