Kim Kardashian Unveils New Skims Face Shapewear & It’s Actually Not a Joke

In what is definitely not the first time Kim Kardashian’s brand has sparked controversy, Skims has released an unexpected product: shapewear for faces. Fans are divided over the brand’s first-ever face wrap, which is priced at $48. While some people think the product seems useful, others assumed Kim had to be joking.

Kim described the product as a ‘necessity.’

When Kim and her brand announced the product launch on Instagram, one person on Reddit asked the question many of us were thinking: “What am i even supposed to use this for?”

On the Skims website, the face shapewear is described as a “must-have face wrap” that “boasts our signature sculpting fabric and features collagen yarns for ultra-soft jaw support.” Additionally, the description suggests that the product can be used on a daily basis: “Velcro closures at the top and nape of the neck allow for easy, everyday wear,” the website reads.

Kim also took to her Instagram Stories to explain how to use the face wrap. “Now we are gonna offer amazing face shapewear, which is just such a necessity,” she said, per Buzzfeed. “This material is actually infused with collagen yarns, and it’s just this amazing jaw support.”

But people thought she had to be joking.

The Skims product launch had some people checking their calendars to confirm that it was indeed July, and therefore not April Fool’s Day.

“WOW. I thought it was a joke …” one person commented on Instagram. “This is absolutely ridiculous.”

A second critic wrote, “What in the Hannibal is this?” Similarly, someone else commented, “This is giving Handmaids Tale vibes 😳.”

The face wrap prompted another person to declare that they actually “want off this planet.”

Once again, many critics slammed Kim for trying to profit off women’s insecurities.

While the face shapewear was not exactly expected, some people were not all that surprised.

One critic on Instagram wrote, “SKIMS: Making women feel bad about themselves since 2018.”

On Reddit, someone else seemed to agree, writing, “Gotta give Kim credit, she’s always at the forefront off identifying new things for women to be insecure about and profiting off them.”

A third person added, “Why the hell does everything about a woman need to be ‘fixed’?”

Some people defended the product.

Lots of people were shocked and offended by Kim’s new face shapewear, but others asserted that it actually seems useful. A few people noted that they use similar products for TMJ disorders, which “can cause pain in the jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement,” per Mayo Clinic.

But on Instagram, some critics questioned Kim about whether she actually consulted any medical professionals when designing the product. Experts have suggested that face wraps might be useful post-surgery. However, there’s no evidence to support claims that that chin straps can improve a person’s jawline or get rid of a double chin, Dr. Joel Kopelman previously told Yahoo Life.

Some critics pointed out that the Kardashian-Jenner family did not appear to rely on the product themselves.

“Not trying to be cheeky but kim doesn’t even use this she gets a lil nip n tuck,” one person wrote on Reddit.

Another added, “Is this what Kris had on after her recent face lift?”
