What to Know
When looking at the royal family, it may feel difficult at times to step back and see that this is also a family that spends time together out of the press. They likely do a fair amount of things that normal families do, like laugh at inside jokes and celebrate birthdays by having delicious cake together. Okay, we’d at least like to hope they do that last one! In a move that may surprise some, King Charles can be seen sharing a super sweet moment with his grandson, Prince Louis, as they all arrived at their traditional Easter Sunday church service. This moment was a great reminder that he’s not just a king but also a grandfather.
It was nice to see the royal family together on a holiday showing up for Easter Sunday service.
If you’re someone who keeps track of the royal family, you’re likely aware that they routinely show up to church to celebrate holidays like Easter and Christmas. It can feel like a lot of pomp and circumstance to just watch them all arrive together at these events year after year, but there was something a little bit different this time around.
In a video obtained by multiple outlets, including the Mirror, you can easily spot the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children arriving at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor the Easter Sunday service on April 5, 2026. The news outlet reported that this is the first time the family has done this since Kate’s cancer diagnosis in 2024.
The footage shows 7-year-old Louis and his sister, Charlotte, walking with their mom down the hill to Windsor Castle to the church where they’re waiting for the arrival of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
While arriving at the church, King Charles shared a cute moment with his grandson, Prince Louis.
According to the Mirror, when Charles and Camilla arrive at the church by car, you could hear a few in the crowd erupt in “God save the King” while the royals did their usual curtsies and bows.
What really caught everyone’s attention was when Charles and Camilla made their way into the church and interacted with their grandchildren. The videos of this sweet moment shows that when Charles turned toward Louis and Charlotte, he gave Louis a “playful tap on his shoulder.”
It can feel like quite a rare and vulnerable glimpse into the royal family, especially the relationship between King Charles and his grandchildren.
A body language expert, Judi James, spoke to the Mirror, and she called it “a very unusual reward from Charles, showing his softer side as a doting grandad.” She called it a “very sweet moment when Charles is walking past William’s children and he spontaneously, fondly and unusually (in public), stretches one hand out to pat one of them.” It was pretty cute!
This isn’t the first time that Charles has been affectionate with Louis in public.

If you’re wondering why we haven’t seen this kind of behavior from Charles before, there have been a few occasions when the public has been privy to some really cute moments between the King and his grandchildren.
For instance, in June 2022, when the royal family was in attendance at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, People reported that a 4-year-old Prince Louis went viral for making some adorable faces at his mom while excitedly watching the parade.
Louis also took turns sitting in his mom and dad’s laps before heading over to his grandfather’s for a cute bounce on his knee and to take in all the festivities together.
We have to say that whatever sweet moments we’re able to catch of this grandfather simply enjoying a moment with his grandchildren, we’ll take them!
