King Charles has always been known as a loving grandfather, and apparently, that’s especially true when it comes to Princess Charlotte, the only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton. As one royal expert told People, Charles has a special bond with his 10-year-old granddaughter, especially because he only had sons himself.
We’ve long known that Charles was originally hoping Prince Harry would be a girl. After all, Princess Diana told the world herself. In the book Diana: Her True Story by Andrew Morton, she shared, “I knew Harry was going to be a boy because I saw on the scan. Charles always wanted a girl. He wanted two children, and he wanted a girl.”
Obviously, that dream didn’t come true, but it does mean Charles he has a special relationship with his granddaughter, according to what Ingrid Seward said.
“He once wanted a daughter. I would think he has a very nice relationship with his granddaughter,” she told the magazine.
Seeing how easily Charlotte has taken to royal life is another quality that reportedly endears her to the king. “She’s a natural and has taken to royal events like a duck to water,” a source close to the royals said, per People.

As the magazine pointed out, Charles has shown his devotion to his granddaughter in a pretty cute way in the past. Last summer, he was seen wearing a red and white string friendship bracelet that appeared to match one Charlotte had been seen wearing. If you have a little girl in your family who gets into making friendship bracelets, it’s basically a given that every adult in the family will end up with one of their own – even if you happen to be the king of England.
It’s sweet to see how close they’ve gotten, especially as Charles has adjusted to his place on the throne. The last few years have been chaotic for the royals (to say the least), but Will and Kate’s kids do always seem to be so happy and loved.
