Kourtney Kardashian Says She Holds Her Son for Entire Duration of His Naps — Even If They Last 5 Hours

Kourtney Kardashian has some pretty interesting views when it comes to parenting. Not only has she recently said that she thinks sending children to school is “dated,” but Kourtney revealed that she holds her 18-month-old son Rocky throughout his naps, even if they last for hours.

Kourtney is mom to four children.

She shares three of her children — Mason, 15, Penelope, 12, and Reign, 10 — with her ex Scott Disick. In November 2023, Kourtney welcomed her son Rocky with husband Travis Barker. It’s no surprise that Kourtney’s approach to parenting is a bit unconventional, but some of the comments she made on sister Khloé Kardashian‘s podcast were still shocking to many Keeping Up With the Kardashians fans.

She explained that she’s embracing ‘attachment-style parenting.’

This parenting philosophy is the reason Kourtney holds Rocky for the entire duration of his naps, she explained on the May 21 episode of Khloé’s podcast. She’s hoping that doing so will result in her son having a secure attachment style.

“With attachment-style parenting, I hold him for his naps the whole time,” she stated. She has another reason for doing this: “motherly instincts.”

“I think it’s really not separating for as much as possible in the first definitely three years,” she said. “It really helps nurture their attachment — secure attachment.”

“Just my motherly instincts,” she added. “Mother knows best.”

Her son weighs 23 pounds and sometimes naps for hours.

Kourtney practices this even when her son sleeps for hours. “I’ll sit in our little chair in the room,” she explained. “I still have my little breastfeeding pillow and then he’ll lay on there, but my arm’s under, and then I have a little radiation blanket that I put over to protect from EMF from phone use.”

She’s even held Rocky during a five-hour nap.

Reactions were mixed.

While some fans called Kourtney “nuts,” especially because of the radiation blanket she uses, others understood her desire to hold her son during his naps.

“I can’t believe I’m going to actually side this woman, but I’ve contact napped my daughter the entirety of her life, she turns 2 soon,” one person wrote on Reddit.

Another parent wrote: “Did this with my daughter. She’s my only child and I knew I wouldn’t have any more kids. No regrets. She’s only 3 but I already miss our snuggles.”

However, others still called Kourtney out for her privilege. While many parents might want to do this, it doesn’t mean they can. “I’m sure Kourtney can just enjoy her baby while staff is ensuring her home is in tip top shape and a chef makes her vegan dinners lol,” one critic pointed out.

“If I had staff I’d do this too,” another person quipped. A third person argued that “most women would love to do that but the US doesn’t have paid maternity leave and parents are forced to leave their newborns with strangers.”
