Kourtney Kardashian Let Daughter Penelope Co-Sleep With Her Until Age 11

Kourtney Kardashian Barker is defending a decision she has stuck by when it comes to her kids: co-sleeping. During an appearance on Dear Media’s The Skinny Confidential podcast, the 45-year-old media personality talked about how she’s co-slept with all four of her children. She has three kids with ex Scott Disick: Mason, 14, Penelope, 12, and Reign, 9. She also has a 10-month-old son Rocky Thirteen, whom she shares with husband Travis Barker.’

She does what 'feels natural.'

“I’m on the craziest hours right now because of our whole summer of touring, but I think one thing too is that we sleep with our baby,” she said. “As a mother, I like to do what feels natural and instinctual to me. And that’s for me what it is. And of course, I also read all the benefits and hear all the benefits. And I mean, it’s something that mammals have been doing for since time existed.”

Kourtney doesn't have restrictions for the age limit when it comes to co-sleeping.

“I think every person’s different and every child is different,” she continued on the podcast, speaking on the ages her children co-slept with her until they chose not to. “My oldest son slept with me till he was 7 and just naturally wanted to sleep. I mean also part of it [is] like at a certain time I would put him to bed in his room and then he would come to my room. That’s what my daughter does. She comes in. And then at 7 he just stopped and he was like, ‘I’m done with you, I sleep in my own room.’ And then my daughter slept with me pretty much till she was 11.”

Travis is on board with it.

Kourtney revealed that Travis doesn’t have a problem when it comes to the children co-sleeping with them. “My husband loves it too,” she said. “So we get aligned.”

Other parents chimed in about not seeing a problem with the practice. “This is very common and normal,” one person commented. “I don’t want my kids to ever stop sleeping with me 😂,” another mama wrote.

Some people believe it's not normal.

Although many comments were heartwarming and encouraged co-sleeping, some people found a problem with it. “Definitely not natural,” one person wrote. “My kid is almost 13 and has never slept in our bed.” Another user stated, “Looks like Kourtney has an attachment disorder.”

Other fans voiced concern for how the mother gets any “adult time.”

Kourtney previously opened up about co-sleeping.

On her website, Poosh, she opened up about co-sleeping. “I learned very quickly how important (and hard it could be) to get a good night’s sleep with a newborn baby in the house. I realize that people have many different ways for getting their kids to sleep through the night, and I believe that if something works for your family, then that is what is most important. We all just need our sleep, right? In my house, I found that a co-sleeping strategy worked best,” she wrote.

“Some of the advantages of shared sleep for my family included a better and longer night’s sleep and more time together as a family,” she added. “As a working mom, if I didn’t have much time with my babies during the day, at least I knew we’d have our nights together.”
