Kristin Bell is still facing backlash from an Instagram post she shared nearly a week ago. After Kristen shared a joke from husband Dax Shepard in a post for their wedding anniversary that didn’t quite land with her followers, she skipped out on a scheduled appearance on the Today show with no explanation, seemingly hiding out so she wouldn’t be asked about the post.
It all started when Kristen wished Dax a happy anniversary after 12 years of marriage, sharing a photo of one of the couple’s daughters wrapped up in her dad’s arms.
“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would,'” she wrote in the caption.
Though it seems like Kristen’s post was meant to be funny, it didn’t feel that way to many of her followers, who quickly showed up in the comments to let her know that joking about domestic violence is never a good idea (but especially not during Domestic Violence Awareness Month — yikes!).
After stirring up plenty of controversy, Kristen was set to appear on the Today show on Wednesday to promote the second season of her Netflix series, Nobody Wants This, which began streaming on Thursday. But instead, Kirsten was a no show, leaving her costar Justine Lupe, to do the interview on her own.
As The Independent reported, not only was there no mention made of Kristen’s absence on the show, but Kristen herself hasn’t announced anything, either.
She’s back in action to promote the show, though — explanation or no explanation. Later that same day, she shared a video of herself getting ready to do more press for the show, and her Instagram post that started all of this controversy still remains live on her feed.
This means that Kristen hasn’t addressed the backlash she got from her post at all, and at this point, it sounds like she’s just waiting until the discourse shifts to someone else instead of her.
So far, Dax hasn’t made any mention of the situation, either — despite the fact that it was his quote that ended up getting his wife into trouble.
