Eleven year old Brexton Busch is already trying to follow in his late dad, NASCAR driver Kyle Busch’s, footsteps. But neither Kyle nor his wife, Samantha Busch, probably ever imagined Brexton would be in a crash so early on in his burgeoning career. On July 21, 2026, Brexton was involved in a multi-car crash at the Cook Out Summer Shootout event in North Carolina.
The yearly event is a short track series that happens every year. Both adults and kids can participate, so Brexton’s involvement isn’t out of the ordinary. It’s also not surprising for him specifically, as the young racer has made it clear he plans to follow Kyle as a professional racer. But the accident had some fans momentarily worried about him and the future of his career already.

According to Us Weekly, Samantha posted about Brexton’s crash in her Instagram Stories. Although that particular story expired and is no longer available, the outlet reported that Samantha shared a video of the crash involving multiple cars on the track. The official Instagram account for FloRacing also posted a video of the accident.
In the video, Brexton’s car hits one in front of him. From there, his car gets hit by others in the race. It isn’t a pileup by any means, but it does look pretty bad in the video shared on social media. Luckily, although Brexton had to be removed from his car, he wasn’t seriously injured in the accident.
It was still scary in the moment, though, for attendees at the race and, like, for Samantha. A user commented on FloRacing’s Instagram post with, “It was dead silent while they were getting Brexton out of the car.”

After the accident, Samantha shared an update in her Instagram Stories.
“Brex ended up wrecking out after a hard hit last night but thankfully he’s all good today,” she wrote. “He will be back on dirt tonight. Tried to tell him to take the day off and rest to which I got an [rolling eye emoji].”
By all accounts, he walked away without many injuries, and he was apparently well enough to continue to race the following day. Later, Samantha shared more Instagram Stories of other races Brexton competed in after that July 21 crash. In one, the 11-year-old junior racer placed first. Clearly, he isn’t one to give up too easily.

Kyle died in May 2026 of complications related to bacterial pneumonia, including hemorrhagic shock and disseminated intravascular coagulation, according to ESPN. But, long before Kyle died, Brexton was a racer like his dad. Per Brexton’s own website, the young racer began winning in 2021 and from there, he continued to enter bigger and bigger races for kids in his age bracket.
On July 18, 2026, Brexton posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) from his first sin after Kyle died.
“My first win since my dad passed,” he wrote at the time. “I don’t like to talk about it much, but the last two months have been really tough. I’m missing my crew chief, my driver coach, my dad, the guy who I looked up to more [than] anyone. I know he would be proud the way I ran the top (much better than him lol) to win my first Micro A-Main at Port City. We love and miss you so much dad.”
