After spending most of her life in the public eye and growing up on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, there was never a chance that Kylie Jenner‘s life could be comparable to the typical life of someone else her age. Despite her reality TV upbringing and her billionaire status, Kylie claims that people actually are surprised at just how “normal” she is after they meet her. But why?
In a new interview with Dazed magazine published on May 30, 2025, Kylie opened up about what people’s first impressions of her usually are – and it’s not what we’d expect.
So how did she manage to keep that level of normalcy while also becoming one of the most famous women in the world? Friends who keep her down-to-earth.
“I think the reality is having the same friends that I’ve always had, my family’s obviously the same, and keeping my internal circle, [and] private life, the same has been the best thing for me,” she said. “I don’t feel like it’s changed me. I’ve been able to remain the same.”
For that reason, people are caught off guard by the fact that she’s not quite as intimidating in real life as she seems.
“And I get that compliment, too,” she continued in the interview. “Sometimes when I meet new people, they’re always pleasantly surprised with how normal I am.”
With as much of Kylie’s life as she does share publicly, she also pointed out that she keeps a lot private, and that includes her relationship with Timothée Chalamet.
“I think I’ve found a good balance with sharing the things that I want to share. Keeping parts of my personal life private. I’m just learning as I go, I think,” Kylie shared.
And when it comes to what she does make public, Kylie said she’s managed to find “peace” with the criticism she gets online and won’t let anything she reads change her perception of herself.
“90% of the time, whether it’s negative or positive, people just don’t know the half of anything. So it’s hard to take advice from people who don’t know you,” she said in the interview.
Kylie added, “Also, you know, other people’s opinions of me have never affected my personal life, how my friends view me, how my kids view me, how my family views me, or the success of my business.”
Of course, Kylie’s interview was met with a lot of criticism – after all, how normal can a billionaire be?
One commenter wrote, “‘Trying to carve out a moment just for me is something I still struggle with’ says the woman with a private jet named KylieAir, accompanied with branded cups on said jet. Sorry, you’re not going to make me feel bad for a grifter girl boss. Rich people are lame and they’re polluting our earth! I don’t feel bad she’s too busy living in luxury.”
“Can we please move on from these people?” another person wrote. “They aren’t doing or saying anything interesting or adding anything of substance to this world.”
