The newborn days can be rough, and late night feedings can be especially exhausting. Some parents choose to split nighttime feeding duties, but Kylie and Jason Kelce have taken a different approach. The couple just welcomed their fourth daughter, Finnley on March 30. On a recent episode of Kylie’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, Kylie admitted that Jason is not involved in their newborn’s nighttime feedings.
There’s a reason they do things this way.
On her podcast, Kylie assured her fans that this is her preference: She takes care of Finnley while Jason continues to sleep.
“Overnights with a newborn, for us, typically mean that I’m waking up and doing feeds and Jason is sleeping, so that he can man the toddlers during the day,” Kylie, 33, shared. “That’s how I like it.”
It’s not because Jason is taking a hands-off approach to parenting.
Even though it might sound like Jason is taking on fewer parenting responsibilities than Kylie is, Kylie explained that she handles nighttime feedings so Jason has more energy to take care of their other kiddos during the day. Kylie and Jason are also parents to 5-year-old Wyatt, 4-year-old Ellie, and 2-year-old Bennett.
“This is not like a decision-making, ‘Oh, let the man sleep,'” Kylie clarified. “No. He needs sleep to be able to chase toddlers during the day, so that I can continue to sit with a child.”
As a mom of four, Kylie was (sort of) prepared for this.
Kylie seemed to know that sleep deprivation was in her future. In a prerecorded clip for her podcast, Kylie opened up about what she thought her life would look like after welcoming Finnley. She predicted she would probably not be getting enough sleep. She added that she would probably have to change her shirt quite often and would be dealing with “the occasional blowout.”
In the relatable clip, Kylie started to wonder if she was truly ready for what was to come. “Oh God, it’s coming,” she added. “Maybe I’m not ready.”
Previously, Kylie made headlines when she revealed that Jason doesn’t watch their kids while she records her podcast.
When Kylie first launched Not Gonna Lie, she answered a fan’s question about child care. “It’s well known that you watch the kids while Jason podcasts,” a fan wrote in their question for Kylie. “Will Jason be watching the girls while you do this show?”
Kylie admitted that Jason would not be watching their kids while she works on her podcast. “When I have to do something – coaching, something for the Eagles Autism Foundation, podcast, a doctor’s appointment even – I will schedule child care,” she explained at the time. “My husband could tell me 72 times that he is going to be in the house during the times when I have to leave it. I will still schedule child care.”
She clarified that it was not “a knock on [Jason]” but that he was simply too busy.
“He is working so hard and really grinding right now,” she said on the podcast. “And so, I just make sure that I’m covered and if that means that he’s at the house and someone else is there, then that’s what we have going on.”
