Mark Wahlberg Prioritized His Kids Over His Hollywood Career & Says It Was the Right Move

Mark Wahlberg is a dad first, and even though he’s a sought-after actor, he will always put the happiness and well-being of his family ahead of everything. Recently, the dad of four moved his family out of the fast-paced life of Hollywood for a quieter home where the family could refocus themselves.

Mark and his family are now residents of Las Vegas.

According to E! News, Mark shared an update on how his family is adjusting to the big move made six months ago — leaving Los Angeles and putting down roots in Las Vegas.

Mark has explained that he and his family were moving so he could have more time with them and refocus their goals as a family — things he felt he wasn’t able to do living in Hollywood, where the focus was more on his career.

Mark also wanted to find a better work/life balance.

"I want to be able to work from home," the actor shared last October, adding that he’s home "every free moment."

Mark is raising four kids — daughters Grace, 13, and Ella, 19, plus sons Brendan, 14, and Michael, 17 — along with his wife Rhea Durham, and their decision to move was all for the kids.

He wanted to give his kids 'a better life.'

Top of mind for the move was to give his children a better life where they can “follow and pursue their dreams — whether it be my daughter as an equestrian, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as a golfer,” Mark shared last year.

"This made a lot more sense for us,” he continued. "We came here to just kind of give ourselves a new look, a fresh start for the kids, and there's lot of opportunity here. I'm really excited about the future."

And now, six months after the relocation, Mark says it was definitely the right move to make.

"They love Vegas," Mark recently shared. "I spent lots of time in L.A. pursuing my interests and my career, and now it's time for them to pursue theirs."

He added: "Everybody is thriving there, it's been great."

Mark shared that there’s been a lot in Las Vegas he and his family have been able to do.

"I saw Adele, I saw Bruno Mars," he said. "I've seen quite a few shows and been to lots of great restaurants. There's so much to do in Vegas, and it's so exciting."

Now they’re focused on making memories and supporting each other’s goals and dreams. That includes seeing their oldest daughter, Ella, off to college, and witnessing firsts, such as Michael’s first car.
