Married at First Sight is an entertaining reality TV show for a lot of reasons — who doesn’t want to see the chaos that ensues when two total strangers agree to get married? — but the reason people are talking about the show right now has nothing to do with the relationships being featured this season.
One of the grooms, Adam Dehmlow, chowed down on a steak with his hands during his honeymoon, and he is getting roasted on every corner of the internet for it.
Adam picked up his steak and took a bite.
Adam and his new wife, Marissa, are on their honeymoon in Cancun and eating at a restaurant when he picks up his ribeye with his hands and bites into it. And as if that’s not strange enough, he also held it out to Marissa to see if she wanted to try some, too.
This would be weird to see in any context, but he’s at dinner with a woman he just met and supposedly wants to make a good impression on. What would have been wrong with picking up a knife and a fork and cutting the steak to eat it as social norms dictate?
We live in a society, Adam. Cut your steak.
People are completely baffled by this behavior.
Now that a screenshot of Adam and his steak have made it to Facebook, people are sharing how confused (and disgusted) they are by seeing this moment play out on the show.
“Did he think doing this was going to impress her?” one commenter asked.
Others pointed out that Marissa was acting a little weird, too. One commenter wrote, “He was eating like a caveman! And then she ripped off a piece with those teeth — so weird!”
“I couldn’t believe it! He just picked up the steak and ate it like that, then held it in his hand for her to take a bite!” another commenter wrote. “I really doubt he was raised without manners. Seriously, use a fork and a steak knife, for goodness’ sake! Was he raised by wolves?”
Adam isn’t surprised that people have reacted so strongly to the moment.
While talking to the New York Post, Adam said that he had a feeling his entertaining method of eating steak was going to become A Thing on the show.
“Honestly, no shock at all,” he said. “A few of the other couples weren’t exactly generating material. So the second anybody does something with a little flavor, people are going to grab it with both hands.”
He said Marissa rolled with it pretty well, too (though who would have blamed her if she didn’t?).
“I’d been doing something unhinged on a pretty consistent schedule by that point, so her bar for me had already been adjusted,” he added.
Maybe Adam just wanted to make the most of his on-screen time. He certainly cemented his place as an unforgettable cast member (though maybe not in the way he might have hoped).
