What to Know
Unfortunately for Meghan Markle, her digital footprint and just all around entertainment footprint is too large for her to ever get away with contradicting herself, however small the contradiction might be. Because when she launched candles as part of her As Ever brand, people quickly called her out on social media for something she once said against such costly items.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), someone pointed out how Markle once called such outrageously pricey candles “obnoxious.” And, unfortunately for her, the internet does not forget or forgive. Especially when it comes to those who just can’t stand the duchess, and who seem to make sport out of coming for her on social media. I mean, it comes with the territory.
She once blasted expensive luxury candles.

Anyone surprised?
This is the same woman who once claimed she would never sell candles for $100. Yet here we are.

In 2016, Markle blasted about how “obnoxious” $100 candles are. According to The Daily Mail, she literally said that. At the time, she said during a speaking event, “There are no $100 candles on my site — that’s so obnoxious.” This was in reference to her lifestyle blog at the time. She also said, “I’ve always crafted it as ‘aspirational girl next door.’ like, you can aspire for it but totally attain it too.”
What say you now, with expensive candles of your own? Apparently, 2026 Meghan Markle doesn’t have the same values as 2016 Meghan Markle.
In the post on X, the user who was unafraid to call out the duchess wrote, “Meghan Markle, Duchess of Hypocrisy. Anyone surprised? This is the same woman who once claimed she would never sell candles for $100. Yet here we are. Meghan seems to think no one remembers her past interviews. The internet, however, is forever.”
Some of Meghan Markle’s candles cost upwards of $200.
Not all of the candles on the As Ever website cost $100. Some are as inexpensive as $64. But there is a Signature Scent Collection for $256, though. An Evening Ritual set that includes honey, tea, a matchbook, and a candle costs $110. Maybe people can understand the pricey candles. But if Markle once dogged on designers and celebrities for luxury candles, she can’t really turn around and come out with her own. Can she?
A user on X posted, “Meghan Markle, our favorite crazy woman, is now madly shilling her insanely boring, bland candles…now curated with an oversized box of matches. Firstly, who even uses matches anymore? Don’t most people in 2026 just grab a lighter? And why is this ‘curated’? Because it sounds literally insane. I honestly have to wonder who on earth is buying this overpriced junk! Mad Matchstick Meg has officially peaked.”
She also has luxury matches as part of her brand.

In addition to the wickless candles, Markle’s website sells specialty matchbooks. And by specialty, I mean they have the As Ever brand logo and, well, that’s it. The matches are $128, but they come with two candles. Still, matches? Candles? Where does it end? Not with the specially made jams and honey, I’ll tell you that.
Under an X post about the matches, someone wrote that Markle left the British Royal Family to become an influencer, and that one’s got to sting.
“She left royalty to become an influencer and work for her supper via social media,” they commented. “You cannot make this up.”
