Viewers Are Planning to Boycott Meghan Markle’s Appearance on ‘MasterChef Australia’

After teaching audiences all about the art of cooking and entertaining on her Netflix series, Meghan Markle is returning to TV to put her experience to work… not that people are very happy about it. It’s official: Meghan is appearing as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia, and viewers are already planning to boycott her episode. Apparently, they aren’t convinced that she’s the lifestyle guru that she’s tried to make herself out to be.

Meghan’s episode of MasterChef Australia is set to air on July 26.

Channel 10, the network that broadcasts MasterChef Australia, announced the news this week with an Instagram post that showed Meghan on set.

“The countdown is on! Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, joins the #MasterChefAU kitchen as a guest judge, bringing her love of food, entertaining and seasonal produce to one of the competition’s most memorable challenges,” said the caption.

In a press release for the show, Paramount said, “An entrepreneur, humanitarian and passionate home cook, Meghan sets a challenge for our cooks to create dishes that celebrate seasonal ingredients and the personal stories behind them.”

This isn’t too surprising — it sounds a lot like what she did on With Love, Meghan.

The contestants will have to choose an ingredient from the following list as the anchor for their dish: “carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, Brussels sprouts, celeriac, local Australian honey, macadamia nuts, quince, lemons, apples, mandarins and strawberries.”

She sounds pretty jazzed about the opportunity.

“What attracted me to the MasterChef Australia kitchen? Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy yes,” Meghan says on the show, via the press release. “It’s such a great show. I’m just really honored that I was asked to be able to be here with you and to be able to judge some of these meals.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like many of the show’s fans are quite as pumped about her episode as she is, according to the comments on Channel 10’s Instagram post.

Fans of the show are much less excited than Meghan is.

People are announcing their decisions to boycott Meghan’s episode in the comments, and it sounds like it includes those who have been watching the show this season, too.

“Can’t stand her. She’s not a chef. Why is she even on this show?” one person asked.

Another commenter wrote, “I think it’s really disappointing to see this person on MC when there are so many talented and truly deserving people who could have been given that opportunity. It’s a shame, really.”

If MasterChef fans are so against Meghan they’re willing to miss an episode when the competition is getting down to the wire, so be it. Something tell us she’s not going to mind very much now that she’s received her paycheck for working on the show…
