Meghan Markle knows her kids are “privileged,” which is why she thinks it’s especially important to teach them to “value and appreciate their food.” During her appearance on the Aspire podcast with Emma Grede, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about the conversations she’s had with her kids, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, about money.
Meghan finds creative ways to talk to her kids about money.
Of course, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are a bit young for conversations about finances. With that in mind, Meghan has taken a fun approach to introducing the concept to her kids. During the podcast, Meghan told Emma that her kids sometimes have “a little farmers market stand.”
Additionally, her kids have gotten involved in gardening, which also functions as a fun and interactive learning experience.
“We grow a lot of veggies,” Meghan said on the podcast. “Part of what I want them to learn … you start from seed and you watch it grow. But with that is, ‘Now do you want to sell your harvest? Do you want to share it with our community? And also, what do you want to do with those funds once you have them?'”
She wants her kids to understand the value of things.
Meghan believes that “gardening is so great for children because it teaches them patience (and) it teaches them to value and appreciate their food.” Given that her kids are still young, they’re also learning “counting and numbers and all those things.” But at the same time, Meghan is trying to educate them on how “there is a cost and a price for things.”
She went on to say that this lesson is especially important for her children. “I think that’s key for children to understand, especially children who are very lucky to have a home that has privilege.”
The As Ever founder added that she and her husband, Prince Harry, are committed to helping their kids understand the value of things even though they come from a privileged background.
Meghan previously hinted at going into business with her daughter.
As of now, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s business experience is limited to farmers market stands. But during a previous episode of her own podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan spoke about potentially going into business with Lilibet someday.
Meghan asked Tina Knowles, who is mom to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, about what it’s like to collaborate with her kids. During the conversation, Meghan revealed that she has fantasized about doing the same. “Just curious, I mean, I wonder if one day I’ll be in business with Lili and we’ll be building something,” she said.
