Meghan Markle Slammed for Being ‘Disrespectful’ After Using Royal Title That’s No Longer Legally Hers

Meghan Markle hasn’t been a working member of the royal family for more than five years, but is she still trying to use one of her old titles? After Meghan reposted a message on Instagram that referred to her as “Your Royal Highness,” she’s facing an avalanche of backlash from those pointing out that the Duchess of Sussex gave that title up long ago. And taking it a step further, some royal watchers even believe she’s being deliberately “disrespectful” toward her in-laws in the process.

Meghan shared a message from Ukraine’s vice president on Instagram.

After Prince Harry returned from his visit to Ukraine last week, Meghan took to her Instagram Stories to share a peek at her children enjoying a treat he brought back with them, as Express reported.

In response, Ukrainian Vice President Yulia Svyrydenko shared a screenshot of Meghan’s post, writing a message to “Your Royal Highness” and explaining more about where the Easter bread that Archie and Lili had been eating had come from.

“A remarkable group of women who live in the border region of Sumy, an area affected by landmines, have prepared this Easter bread for you and your family,” she wrote. “Today, they, along with all of us, are deeply moved, knowing that this symbolic offering — Easter bread, made from flour harvested from demined fields — will be on your table.”

Now, she’s being called out.

After Meghan shared the message on her Instagram Stories, people absolutely did not hold back when it came to sharing what they really thought of her seemingly using the HRH title again.

“Meghan breaking an agreement with the RF?” one person wrote in a post on X. “What a surprise … Of course she’s aching to use ‘HRH’ and this is just dipping a toe in the water, so to speak. She’s better than them, you know!”

Another person replied, “HMQ stripped them of HRH when they walked away — they’re not working royals and as such are not permitted to use them.”

As Express pointed out, Harry and Meghan agreed they’d no longer use their HRH titles when they stepped down from their places as senior royals.

“With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations. While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty,” said a statement from Buckingham Palace in 2020. “The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”
