Meghan Markle Reportedly Made Wild Demands That Cost Her a Feature in Vogue

In September 2022, Meghan Markle made a splash with her cover story for The Cut, but apparently, it was Vogue she was after at first. According to what sources have told Page Six, she made some truly impossible demands of the legendary magazine that ended up souring her relationship with Vogue in the process. And if what these sources are saying is legit, there’s a chance we’ll never see Meghan on the cover of the magazine again — at least, not while Anna Wintour is still at the helm.

As sources told Page Six, there were plans for Meghan to feature in the September issue, but she didn’t want to stop there. She not only wanted the cover, but she asked for a “global cover,” which meant she would have appeared on both the UK and the US covers of Vogue at the same time — something that has only been achieved by Adele in 2021.

Meghan also wanted to have a good bit of control over the issue.

“Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue,” the source said. “Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé.”

But apparently, she wasn’t willing to take no for an answer and pressed for a call with prolific editor Anna … who “wasn’t interested” in speaking with her but took the call “to be polite.”

In a word? Yikes.

As Page Six pointed out, the Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Meghan and Edward Enniful, who was the editor of British Vogue at the time, even had a falling out over her wild demands (though Page Six’s source said the two “remained warm and respectful” afterwards).

“The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations. He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month,” an insider told The Daily Mail. “Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Condé Nast. The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online — but she turned it down.”

It will be interesting to see if the Vogue cover Meghan dreams of ever materializes, but if it does, it sounds like she’ll need to seriously tamper her expectations.
