What to Know
First Lady Melania Trump is not exactly known for being enthusiastic about the holiday season. In 2020, a leaked audio clip made it pretty clear that she wasn’t happy about being tasked with decorating the White House for Christmas.
“I’m working… my a– off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f— about the Christmas stuff and decorations?” she said at the time. So, it’s maybe not the most wonderful time of the year for Melania, and her super short appearance at a recent Christmas event suggests she’s still not feeling very festive.
Melania stepped out for the arrival of the White House Christmas tree.
On Monday, November 24, Melania stepped out of the White House to welcome the arrival of this year’s White House Christmas tree. This year’s Christmas tree comes from Korson’s Tree Farms in Michigan.
According to the Daily Beast, Melania spent a grand total of two minutes and 50 seconds outside for this occasion. After calling the tree “beautiful” and posing for some photos, she reportedly rushed back into the White House.
Unsurprisingly, this short appearance at the Christmas event reminded many people of the leaked audio clip in which she complained about decorating for Christmas. It also rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, as some people took it to mean that Melania thought she was too good for the whole thing.
“She did not want the poor people to get a chance to look her in the eyes,” one person on Reddit hypothesized. “Why bother going in the first place if you can’t even make a decent effort?”
Another person speculated that “she definitely did not want to be first lady again.”
But others actually found it relatable.
Some people who don’t love the Trump family didn’t really see an issue with the short appearance at the event, especially because they would likely do the exact same thing.
“I’m no fan of Melania, but I find this to be the most relatable thing she’s ever done,” one person wrote. Another person added, “Melania’s single most relatable quality is how much she hates having to do performative wifey Christmas bulls—.”
A few people even noted that she appears anxious and uncomfortable when she shows up at these kinds of events. “I despise everything that’s happening in the White House … these days, however, as an introvert, yeah, I get it,” someone else concluded.
Now that the Christmas tree has arrived, Melania will reveal her decorations soon.

In the past, people have had lots of questions about her Christmas decor choices. In 2017, Melania’s eerie Christmas decor went viral and led to a lot of jokes, with one person writing, “The design aesthetic of the Trump women is ‘the rotting void inside of us.'” Then, in 2018, Melania decorated with cone-shaped red trees that were quite unconventional and a bit unsettling.

Although she just received this year’s Christmas tree, she already teased this year’s decor back in October. Nothing in the short clip looked all that unusual or creepy, and people commented on how her holiday decorations finally look like actual Christmas decor rather than Halloween decorations.
And while Melania previously questioned “who gives a f— about the Christmas stuff?” some people on social media said they can’t wait to see how she decorates this year.
