There was once discussion of Melania Trump and Donald Trump expanding their family, but the 54-year-old former fashion model didn’t see more kids in her future. Opening up about her upcoming memoir, Melania, in an interview on Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends, she revealed that her husband wanted to have more kids. The couple welcomed their one and only child, Barron, in March 2006. Though the 78-year-old former president was open to continuing on building a family, Melania wasn’t too fond of the idea of having more children.

She was fine with one child.
“I was always perfectly fine with one. And Donald was encouraging [us] to have more,” Melania said during the interview, which aired on September 26, 2024. “And I said, like, ‘I’m completely fine with one because it’s [a] very busy life.'”
Melania said she's the one in charge.
When thinking about having more children, Melania took her husband’s life into consideration. “I know how busy he is… and I’m in charge of everything,” she said. “So that’s why. It’s just perfect.” Their 18-year-old son recently started college at New York University in Manhattan, according to People.

She talked about the example she and Donald set for their son.
Host Ainsley Earhardt noted that in her book, there’s a “chaotic” photo of Melania working at a desk that’s surrounded by her son’s books all over the floor, while Baron sits in a toy car.
“I think it’s very important that we show our children that we are working too,” she said of the image. “To give them an example [of] how life is. That they see us, that we are productive, that we have ideas, that ideas come to life. And, that’s how I was showing Barron.”
Donald has children with other women.
Donald has other kids from two previous marriages. He shares sons Don Jr., 46, Eric, 40, and daughter Ivanka, 42, with his late ex-wife Ivana Trump. He shares daughter Tiffany, 30, with his ex-wife Marla Maples. Melania is stepmom to all four of his other children.
Melania doesn't consider herself an empty nester.
Though Baron has begun college, Melania doesn’t claim the title of an empty nester. “I don’t feel that way,” she said. “I raised Barron as [his] own person and gave him his own yes and nos. I respect that. It was his decision to come here that he wants to be in New York and study in New York and live in his home, and I respect that.”
