It worked for the 19 Kids and Counting daughters, especially when they were younger and modesty was their thing. But as they have gotten older, they've branched out, and some of them have gotten major makeovers in the process.
Whether it was Jinger Duggar trying out life as a blonde after she moved to California or matriarch Michelle Duggar spending a day at the salon, getting her hair professionally cut and styled, we've seen some major makeover moments in the years that the Duggars have been living in the spotlight. Some of these glow-ups have even given us a little inspiration to take to the salon with us.

Jill's Big Chop
Jill Dillard was one of the first of her sisters to go to a salon and chop off her hair, which she did in September 2019. The end results were gorgeous! Her hair was so shiny and healthy after her cut, and it was clear to see that she was loving her new look, too, which is what matters most.
Jill's Nose Piercing
Another one of Jill's most shocking makeover moments happened when she got a nose ring — something we never imagined we'd see a Duggar daughter do. She never made a big announcement or anything; her new jewelry suddenly started showing up in photos, and her followers were huge fans of her piercing. She looks adorable.
Jill's Hippie Style
Jill also made a major change to her personal style around the same time she pierced her nose and cut her hair. Instead of wearing the more low-key, super classic and modest looks we were used to, she was more likely to be in boho, hippie-ish outfits, including shorts, pants, and even tank tops.
Anna's Hair
Around the time this photo was posted on Instagram, fans were buzzing, wondering if Anna Duggar had gotten a makeover herself. Suddenly, her hair was a lot lighter, and she was looking more polished. At the time, fans thought maybe she was planning to leave husband Josh — but as we know now, that wasn't the case.
Joy's Bangs
In early 2021, Joy-Anna Forsyth looked a lot different when she debuted her new haircut on Instagram. She got bangs, and though her hair did look darker, she insisted that she had never dyed it. But as we found out months later, that statement wouldn't stay true for long.
Joy Goes Blond
During a trip to see BFF Carlin Bates in August 2021, Joy paid a visit to the salon yet again, this time getting her hair colored for the first time. She came away with some gorgeous blond highlights, lightening up her overall look. So cute — and such a difference.
Jana Follows Suit
Not long after Joy showed off her new look, Jana Duggar decided to find out for herself if blondes really do have more fun. She opted for some blond balayage, getting her first big hair makeover in the entire time we've known her as a public figure. She looks gorgeous!

It looks like Jana's new hair also gave her the confidence to wear pants in public like some of her sisters have done. During a August 2021 trip to Las Vegas, shortly after her salon visit, Jana was seen wearing pants, marking another major makeover moment for her.
Michelle's Big Makeover
Back in the days of 19 Kids & Counting, Michelle's daughters planned a makeover day for her at the salon, and the results were pretty striking. Her hair was cut, her bangs were trimmed, and her normally curly locks were totally straightened, turning her into a whole new woman.
Subtle Changes for Michelle
We don't see much of Michelle anymore, so when she showed up in a photo with Jana and Jessa in the summer of 2021, it was surprising to fans when she looked a lot different. Michelle seems to have been losing weight lately, and there's something a little different about her face, too, — maybe a new style of makeup?
Jinger's California Transformation
It wasn't long after Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo made the big move from Texas to California that she decided to change her look along with it. She got blond balayage that transformed her look completely — her long blond hair was a shocking change from her usually brunette locks.

Less than a year later, Jinger changed up her hair again. She kept the blond around, but opted for a much shorter haircut, which was likely way easier for her to keep up with and style every day while she was chasing toddler daughter Felicity around at the time.

Jinger Goes Back to Her Roots
In July 2021, Jinger decided to give being a brunette another try — and got her most dramatic haircut ever. She chopped off her hair into a long bob and took her color to a much darker shade, fading out into a beautiful golden honey color at the ends.
Jessa's Total Makeover
It's not often that we see Jessa Seewald in full hair and makeup, but when we do, we're totally blown away. Here, Jessa got a makeover from sister-in-law Danielle Seewald, and she looks too pretty with her hair blown out and her makeup professionally done. She should pamper herself more often!
