15 of the Most Embarrassing Celebrity Falls & Wipeouts

Sometimes, celebrities might seem superhuman, but it's important to remember that they're just people like the rest of us — and sometimes, they even trip over their own two feet. Fortunately, when it happens to us, only a few people see it, but when a celebrity takes a tumble, all eyes are usually on them. And somehow, when many of these famous falls take place, the stars in question are in the middle of performing or accepting an award, so of course their mishap is captured on film forever.

Watching some of these moments back is enough to give anyone a little secondhand embarrassment. And since almost all of these incidents didn't involve any real injuries, don't feel too guilty laughing — most of the time, the stars are right there laughing along with you.

Read on for some of the most embarrassing times celebrities totally wiped out. From Katy Perry to Oprah Winfrey, it really does happen to the best of us.

When heading to the stage to accept her Academy Award for best actress in Silver Linings Playbook in 2013, Jennifer Lawrence tripped going up the stairs with all eyes upon her. Fortunately for her, most people thought the moment was more endearing than embarrassing.

Madonna was performing at the 2015 Brit Awards when she suddenly took a tumble after the Armani cape she was wearing didn't tear away from the rest of her outfit as intended. Later, she took to Instagram to explain that the fall had happened because the cape had been tied too tight.

Somehow, awards shows are prime opportunity for celebrities to wipe out. Here, Heidi Klum ended up on the ground at the 2008 Primetime Emmys when her cohost, Tom Bergeron, accidentally dropped her. This is Heidi, though, so we barely saw her break a sweat.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry was dressed as Ariel from The Little Mermaid during American Idol's Disney week in 2022 when she fell out of her chair at the judges' panel. The camera was on Ryan Seacrest at the time, so by the time it ended up on Katy, all the audience could see were her fins in the air.

Katy Perry — Again

Katy Perry has a track record for taking a spill on stage! In 2008, she was performing at the MTV Latin America Awards when she tripped and ended up flat on her back on the ground. She recovered from the incident just as well as she did on American Idol, though!

Meghan Trainor

In 2016, Meghan Trainor was finishing up a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when she reached for the mic stand and ended up hitting the ground — and taking the mic with her. Jimmy was nearby when it happened and helped her up, and they both laughed the whole thing off.

Britney Spears

It even happens to celebrities who have been performing for most of their lives. Britney Spears took a tumble on stage in Las Vegas in 2015, and to be totally fair, she was wearing really high heels while dancing around. It seems like she did end up with a bit of an injury, though; she had to cancel the next few performances she had planned because she twisted her ankle.

Oprah Winfrey

Leave it to Oprah Winfrey to fall down on stage and act like it didn't faze her one bit. While Oprah was giving a speech at the 2020 Vision Tour, she seemed to trip on her own feet, landing on her butt. She blamed her shoes for the fall after she hit the ground.

Prince Harry

Prince Harry might be a seasoned polo player, but even he isn't immune to falling off of his horse — which is exactly what happened in 2010 when he was competing in the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. At least he seemed to be a good sport about it and wasn't hurt.

Amy Schumer

OK, this one was intentional, but it still counts because of how memorable it was. Amy Schumer purposefully tripped and fell in front of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the red carpet as a prank at the 2015 Time 100 gala. It definitely had its desired effect, though, because it was all people were talking about for days after it happened.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish was in the middle of performing at Coachella in 2022 when she tripped over something on stage and ended up totally on the ground. Fortunately, she recovered well; before a crew member helped her back up, she yelled to the crowd, "I just ate s—."

Justin Bieber

During a performance in Canada during his 2016 world tour, Justin Bieber fell into a hole on the stage, and it's actually pretty painful to watch. It looks like he might have hit his head on the way down. Fortunately, he was able to recover quickly and get on with the show.

Zendaya

Zendaya was in Rome in February 2022 when she stumbled as she tried to enter a building. The good news: Her security team was around her at the time and managed to catch her before she hit the ground, but there's no doubt the moment was pretty embarrassing anyway!

Lady Gaga

During a 2019 performance in Las Vegas, Lady Gaga was dancing on stage with a fan when the fan, who was holding her up, accidentally dropped her, leading to both of them tumbling offstage. The video itself is pretty brutal, but even that major incident didn't stop the concert from continuing.

Beyoncé & Solange Knowles

While Beyoncé and sister Solange Knowles performed together at Coachella in 2018, they both ended up falling … together. Apparently, Solange was falling and Beyoncé tried to stop her, but regardless of how it happened, in the end, they both hit the ground. Hey, it happens to the best of us.
