It's finally here! The long-awaited first look at Walt Disney's live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid has been released. Halle Bailey shared the 30-second teaser trailer on her Twitter, and we don't think we're alone in saying that this looks like it may even be better than the original!
Halle is playing Ariel in the new version of the fan favorite.
The short clip shows bits of Ariel's life, following her as she swims through a colorful maze of underwater life, gets cozy with a puffer fish, and even as she gets her up close and personal with Prince Eric — although that last bit may have been Ursula as she pretended to be Ariel in order to swindle the prince away from her.
We even got a first look at the evil Ursula.
Disney didn't give too much away when it comes to the film's central villain, Ursula the sea witch, giving her preciously few seconds of screen time during the trailer.
Even though we didn't get too good of a glimpse at what Melissa McCarthy's version of Ursula will look like, we did hear her infamous laugh and we've got chills!
Melissa is going to knock this role out of the park!
We aren't the only ones who can't wait.
People flocked to the comments to tell Halle what an amazing job she did with the film and to share their own personal stories about how seeing Ariel played by a Black actress has made them feel seen.
A full-length trailer will likely come out ahead of the film's May 26 release, but for now, we're just going to keep this teaser on repeat and remind ourselves that the next 100 days are going to fly by!
