Nick Cannon is well-known for having a large family. Since 2011, he has welcomed 12 kids with six different partners. In 2022 alone, he welcomed five children with five different women. During a recent interview with Vulture, Nick, 44, suggested that he wasn’t necessarily planning on having five kids within one year.
He admits it was ‘probably careless activity.’
During the interview, when asked how he ended up welcoming so many children within the same year, Nick described wanting to help the women in his life, including women he was dating at the time and “single friends who wanted kids.” The news outlet then pressed Nick for more details, wondering if there was something more to the story.
“It was also a little bit of, like, ‘Okay, God, how did I have five kids in one year?'” Nick admitted. “Probably careless activity.”
But he differs from Elon Musk in his motivations.
Given that he has fathered 12 kids, Nick has been compared to Elon, who has welcomed at least 14 children. But although Elon has reportedly expressed his desire to have a “legion of kids,” Nick doesn’t seem to have the same mindset. Vulture reported that Nick doesn’t relate to Elon in this way. He doesn’t necessarily plan on having more kids, though it could happen. “The world is a crazy place,” he said. ‘I never say ‘never!’”
This assertion, however, does differ from comments Nick has made in the past. In March, he launched his Wild ‘N Out meme coin and made a joke about competing with Elon. “If the Wild’N Out Token gets to 100 million market cap I’m having 3 more kids to beat @elonmusk,” he wrote on X to promote the meme coin.
Nick has admitted that fathering so many kids has made it difficult to be a present parent.
Although Nick’s attitude about having kids seems pretty casual overall (he previously said he would “leave it to the Lord”), he has admitted to feeling “spread thin.”
“Being a father of multiple kids, it’s always the biggest guilt on me is that I don’t get to spend enough time with all my children,” he said in 2022. More recently, he was asked to name all of his children and struggled to do so. His excuse? “Can you just rattle off 12 of anything?”
Hopefully he’s a little less “careless” about his intimate relationships in the future.
