Nicole Kidman May Have Hinted at Keith Urban Split in Interview Right Before Their Divorce

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have yet to speak out about their divorce themselves, but one of the actress’ final interviews before filing the paperwork says a lot about what might have been going on behind the scenes. While talking to Vogue weeks before the news of their split went public, she may have hinted that something was wrong in her marriage — and the vibes were so off that even the person interviewing her had a feeling that she and Keith weren’t in a good place.

The interviewer said they “guessed” there was trouble in paradise based on their conversation with Nicole.

As writer Wendell Steavenson wrote in the cover story, it seemed like something was off about Nicole’s marriage during their conversation — something that makes a lot of sense in hindsight, knowing what was going on behind the scenes in her personal life at that time.

“A few weeks after we met, after this story had gone to press, news broke of Kidman’s separation from Urban (she would file for divorce in late September),” Wendell wrote. “During our conversations I had guessed as much, but I didn’t want to pry.”

She mentioned life’s curveballs.

When Nicole was asked about how she feels about life in her 50s, Wendell noted that the Babygirl star seemed surprisingly “unsure” in her response.

“How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?” she said.

Nicole also didn’t list Keith as part of her support system.

Opening up about her support system at home in Nashville, she said it was her “ride-or-die girlfriends” who keep her going, including fellow actress and Big Little Lies costar Reese Witherspoon, who lives across the street from her. She also added that she uses her work to cope with the tough stuff.

“I put it in my work. That’s the beauty of what I do,” she said. “There’s a place for some of this to explode, implode, process, discover.”

She also talked about fashion being her “armor.”

And if there was ever a time she needed armor, it sounds like it would be now.

“Sometimes it’s armor,” she said. “Sometimes it’s playful, sometimes it’s sexy. It just depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s androgynous, sometimes it’s kind of, screw you.”

Now, we’re curious if that last comment was aimed at Keith … but either way, we’ll be paying special attention to what she’s wearing in the coming months as the situation between the exes continues to unfold.
