She might be one of those well-paid actresses that sort of flies under the radar when it comes to her wealth, but Nicole Kidman is definitely raking in the dough. Judging by daughter Sunday Rose Urban’s prom dress, which was shared on Instagram and discussed on social media, she has no problem spending money on things to make her kids happy.
In this case, it’s a prom dress for her daughter that cost upwards of $12,000. After social media got wind of the Oscar de la Renta dress and its price tag, they quickly called out Kidman for her “excessive wealth” and for allegedly showing it off with the prom dress. Of course, she is allowed to spend her money as she sees fit, but people are often out for blood when it comes to filthy rich celebs.

It’s possible that Kidman was able to borrow the designer gown for a night for her daughter. But even if she didn’t, dropping that kind of money on a dress that would only be worn once is sort of chump change. But therein lies the problem for those who are tired of the wealthy elites running everything and shoving it in the faces of those who can’t do much about it.
When details about the dress were shared on the Instagram account called Country Music Tunes, users were torn on how to feel about the dress and, by extension, about Kidman.
“I can’t even imagine the cost of a wedding dress,” someone commented. “So much for teaching your child the value of a dollar.”
Another added, “Ridiculous just for one night.”
Some users argued that if Kidman can afford the dress, then why not? Well, according to others, it was frivolous by any standards.
“Was the expenditure necessary for her to have a good time at prom?” Someone commented. “No.”
Someone also pointed out, “Privilege has its advantages.”
The dress might have been borrowed.
It’s unlikely that Kidman allowed her daughter to share photos of the dress on social media simply so the family could throw it in the faces of those less fortunate. But the fact that Kidman didn’t stop anyone from sharing the prom photo of her daughter is proof enough for some that she just doesn’t care.
Some users claimed in the comments under the post that the dress is an “archival” piece and that it was probably just loaned to Kidman. But even if that is the case, it’s still a privilege that average everyday people do not get to take advantage of for their own children. In that way, Kidman is sort of damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t.
Plus, someone shared in the comments, “They are rich. That’s like $20 to us in comparison for them. Who cares how rich people spend their own money.”
She has other kids from her marriage to Tom Cruise.
Kidman might talk more about her daughters with her second husband more often than the adult children she shares with ex Tom Cruise, but she does seem to have some kind of relationship with her older kids. According to People, she is still in contact with her older children. Per Reddit, though, there are rumors about the relationships being strained because of her kids’ involvement in Scientology even after Kidman left the church following her divorce from Cruise.
Someone wrote on Reddit, “I always forget she’s got two other kids that Scientology turned against her(was she labeled a ‘suppressive’ person — ex-Scientologist that speaks bad of the religion — by the church or were the kids brainwashed that, although they could speak with their mom, she would corrupt them somehow?). Can you imagine having two small kids and never seeing them again?! The pain…”
