When news broke that John Mulaney and Olivia Munn had started dating in 2021, the timeline raised a few eyebrows. Around the same time, the comedian, 42, confirmed that he and his first wife, Anna Marie Tendler, decided to split up after six years of marriage. Several months later, in September 2021, John revealed that he and Olivia were expecting their first baby together. Now, Olivia says that she and John were not actually “dating” at that time.

When Olivia found out she was pregnant, she didn't know John very well.
Though several publications reported that Olivia and John were dating in 2021, Olivia, 44, recently told GQ that this was not exactly the case. “It wasn’t anything close to ‘dating,’” Olivia told the magazine. “I barely knew him.” When she found out she was pregnant, she didn’t necessarily think she and John would raise the baby together as a couple.
She initially believed she and John would co-parent.
In 2024, Olivia and John tied the knot and welcomed their second baby together. This was not always their plan, though. At first, when Olivia learned that she was pregnant in 2021, she thought she and John would co-parent. John was eager to welcome the baby and be involved in the baby’s life, but it didn’t mean they would be a couple.
“It wasn’t necessarily ‘We’re going to be married and live together’ or any of that, but it was ‘I will be involved in some way,’” Olivia told GQ.

During Olivia's pregnancy, John was 'newly sober' and she 'didn’t know him well enough to help him.'
Olivia and John had initially met once in 2013 but didn’t reconnect with each other until early 2021. In 2020, John had entered rehab for drug addiction.
“I was watching someone newly sober, at the edge of a cliff, and I didn’t know him well enough to help him,” Olivia told GQ, adding that, at times, she would think, “I don’t know really what’s happening with this guy. It feels pretty shaky.”
However, the fact that they were having a baby together “made him seem light and happy.”
Two months before they welcomed their son, they decided to raise him as a couple.
Throughout much of Olivia’s pregnancy, she wasn’t exactly sure what would happen with her relationship with John. About six months into her pregnancy, she started giving John random drug tests to help him during his recovery. Two months before they welcomed their son, they decided to try to raise him together as a couple.
Olivia and John are now married with two children.
Olivia and John are proud parents to two children, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney and Méi June Mulaney. On June 18, 2023, John wrote, “You made me a dad, Olivia. I love you forever for doing that,” on Instagram. In September 2024, he celebrated the arrival of their baby girl, writing, “I love my little girl so much.”
