Patrick Mahomes’ Post-Surgery Knee Photo Has Fans Asking Hard Questions

Regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks of his generation, when Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, tore two ligaments in his ACL in December 2025, a lot of people were worried about when he’d be good to come back and play. Patrick was able to have surgery almost immediately and began rehab, which usually takes people about nine months to recover, ESPN reported. Even though he’s still in rehab and scheduled to hopefully return to play for the Chiefs come week one of the 2026 season, some fans caught some recent photos of Patrick spending time with his family, and they have some questions.

Brittany Mahomes gives fans an unexpected look at her husband’s knee post-surgery.

Apparently, there’s nothing like some family time, especially when your husband is off work rehabbing his leg!

On April 14, 2026, Brittany Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes’ wife of four years and mother of his three children, shared a good old fashioned photo dump on Instagram from the family’s time at the Milk and Honey Ranch, which is a luxury resort and ranch in Texas.

It appears that there’s all sorts of cute farm-related activities to take part in while you’re at the ranch. Brittany’s caption reads: “Go to a TX farm, invite all ya friends and fam. The best weekend with our squad!”

You can see a photo of Patrick with his kids feeding the goats and making s’mores around a huge campfire. It all looks incredibly sweet and fun.

One thing that definitely caught a lot of people’s attention was a photo of Patrick in a kayak with one of his kids sitting in front of him in a life jacket. The knee that he injured is on full display for the first time in public and it does not look that great. There’s definitely a huge scar there, which is making some fans a bit nervous about him coming back to the Chiefs in time for the new season.

In late March, the Chiefs’ owner said that Patrick is “ahead of schedule” in terms of his recovery.

According to Reuters, the two-time NFL MVP, who sat out the rest of last season due to his injury, is making strides in rehab. Clark Hunt, the owner of the Chiefs, said in late March 2026 that the quarterback is actually “ahead of schedule.”

Clark went on to boast about Patrick’s progress at NFL’s annual meeting. “By every indication, Patrick is ahead of schedule, and he’s worked really hard to be ahead of schedule. Knowing how that plays out in terms of being ready for contact, I don’t think any of us can speculate. But he’s doing fantastic, and we certainly hope we’re going to bounce back this year. We absolutely think we’re a playoff team again, for sure,” he said. Okay, that sounds like a safe yet optimistic answer to give.

In a recent video shared on Reddit of Patrick practicing his throws, while some people in the comments are highlighting that “ACL [injuries] aren’t nearly as detrimental as they used to be,” some folks tend to think that perhaps he just won’t be ready in time.

One person in the comments left their “completely unbiased take” by stating, “I think he should just sit out on the season to make sure it heals well.” Ouch.

Some fans are not too keen after seeing the recent photo of his knee.

Sometimes when people finally have photographic evidence, that is exactly when they start talking — and not always in the most positive sense!

In a Reddit post showing an upclose shot of Patrick at the Milk and Honey farm with his knee scar on full display, the individual who shared the photo had some thoughts about his rehab progress. “First glimpse at Patty’s knee post injury. I don’t think he will be ready for training camp and beginning of the season considering how “seriously” he has been taking rehab,” they wrote.

The redditor also goes on to insinuate that Patrick’s wife, “Miss Hall of Fame,” is “probably already in his face about coming back this season. She already missed out on superbowl she will be fuming if she misses out on beginning of the season of attention seeking on the sidelines.” Wow. Those are some serious allegations!

Someone in the comment section came to Patrick’s defense for those who are claiming that he’s not taking rehab seriously. “There is no reason to believe he isn’t taking his rehab seriously. If you regularly follow sports, you see athletes are out and about doing normal things while going through rehab. They aren’t working with a physical therapist all day every day. They follow the program set out for them by their team doctors and trainers,” they wrote. That is a really good point.

Lastly, whether his wife is sharing family photos of their time together which causes some doubt to enter the chat, or we’re catching videos of him at rehab, one person in the Reddit comments hit the nail straight on the head when they reminded everyone that “he also doesn’t get to decide if he plays the physicians do.” Bingo!
