Patrick Mahomes Accidentally Sparks Chiefs Fan Meltdown & Quickly Walked It Back

The Kansas City Chiefs are sitting this Super Bowl out for the first time in a few years, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating what the team’s next big moves are going to be. So when Patrick Mahomes made a post about his teammate and close friend Travis Kelce, people were completely convinced that he was making a big announcement — so convinced that he ended up having to walk the whole thing back.

Patrick shared a short but cryptic message about Travis.

In the post on X that he shared Wednesday, Patrick wrote, “Let’s go!!!!!” while also tagging Travis and adding a few bullseye emojis for good measure.

Since he wasn’t more specific about what his post was about, people immediately began attempting to fill in the blanks for themselves.

He had to explain himself when his replies were flooded with questions.

Some people thought that Patrick might have been hinting at a development between Travis and fiancée Taylor Swift (like perhaps a pregnancy announcement?) while others guessed that he was celebrating his teammate winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year challenge for his charitable actions for the third year in a row.

Most people thought that Patrick was making some kind of comment on Travis deciding whether or not to retire or return next season for another year with the Chiefs, though.

“Is he back or what?” one fan wrote in response to Patrick’s tweet.

After the deluge of questions, Patrick returned to explain himself, writing, “talking about [golf emoji]. This week, Travis has been competing in the 2026 WM Phoenix Open pro-am in Scottsdale, Arizona, so it sounds like Patrick was just being a good friend and cheering him on.

Travis hasn’t shared publicly whether he’s decided to play again next season.

Fans are still waiting for an official announcement from Travis on whether he’s going to retire from the NFL or if he wants to return to the Chiefs for at least one more season, and judging by what Travis has said himself, it seems like it could really go either way at this point.

It would be fun to see him return for another season and have a shot at going out on a higher note than the way the Chiefs’ season ended this year, but who could blame him if he’s ready for that retirement life?
