Kate Middleton’s style and overall look has been a much-discussed-topic for many years. People love to chatter on about what designer she’s wearing or if a certain cut or style should have even made her roster, especially when she’s doing public appearances. Since she’s been stepping out again after her cancer diagnosis in 2024, a lot of people online have been wondering if she’s been sporting a wig to most functions and appearances. For some — men, we’re looking at you — they probably wouldn’t even notice, but those with a keen eye have been all over it and they’re fully convinced that Kate has some major help in the hair department!

While the Princess of Wales was greeting the crowds in Reggio Emilia this week, someone snapped a photo that’s been shared on Reddit to much discussion. The person who created the thread captioned it, “Tell me again how it’s not a wig…”
The photo shows Kate looking down at a group of children while in Italy and even though her wavy locks look perfectly nice, some have been noticing that something feels off. A lot of people online tend to think it’s a topper, which is just a partial hairpiece that’s most often clipped in to conceal thinning hair. It does make sense that she might use one considering her health diagnosis in 2024.
One person in the Reddit thread immediately jumped to Kate’s defense. “She could also just like the look of fuller hair. It’s not a big deal. I think we would be hard pressed to find a celebrity who has not worn hair extensions in some form. It is fairly common,” they wrote.
Several people aren’t pleased that the color seems to be off with the topper, which is the most noticeable thing to them. “I don’t understand how a stylist hasn’t matched the real hair color up front to the topper. It can’t be that hard,” one person wrote. Another individual shared, “What I don’t understand is why, with all the money she has, can’t she get a topper that matches her hair color and the natural thickness of her hair?”
Some people online are convinced that Kate’s hair stylists secretly hate her.
Poor Kate. There’s been so much online discussion about her hair that some on Reddit are fully convinced that her hair team secretly despises her.
One person in this Reddit thread shared their thoughts on the matter. “I think her hair team hates her and is perpetuating a long running joke,” they wrote. Another person in the replies made a joke about how things might be going better for her hair-wise if she had just been kinder to her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle. “See, this is why she should have tried harder with Meghan. Girl could have probably introduced her to any number of Hollywood stylists who would have nipped these follicular tragedies in the bud,” they wrote. That’s actually pretty funny.
Another individual in the comments seems to be wondering the same thing about her team of hair stylists. They wrote, “Kate must be extremely mean and difficult to work with if her team allows this to happen.” Another person wrote, “I’m convinced they are surrounded by people that hate them, her “glam team”, their comms, etc.” We don’t know about that, but it’s a theory.
Some have even called Kate’s hair a ‘bird’s nest’.
The online discussions have been completely popping off in recent months with a hot topic being Kate’s hair time and time again. The person who shared this Reddit thread and photo captioned the image with these words: “For years, Kate has worn various wiglets in various lengths, but tonight she treated us to what can only be described as a bird’s nest on top of her head. My question is, for somebody as vain as Kate, why has she been appearing a bit rough as of late?” Ouch.
Someone in the Reddit comments couldn’t help but wonder if there was a last minute change here that simply couldn’t get properly fixed. They wrote, “I’m wondering if they had a different hair style in mind and she or someone else changed their mind last minute. She’s been wearing her hair down a lot more in these curls and waves, it might be like a security blanket.”
Another individual has hopes that Kate might ditch the long locks one day and opt for something stylish and shorter. “I wish she would cut it into a chic long bob. This hair style is making her look older,” they wrote. Another person tends to think Kate suffers from a thing called ‘wig blindness.’ They commented, “It was just waaaay too much hair. To the point where it looked exceptionally fake. She has wig/extensions blindness.”
