What is dengue fever?
According to the World Health Organization dengue fever is a viral infection spread to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. "Most people who get dengue will not have symptoms. But for those who do, the most common symptoms are high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rash. Most will get better in 1–2 weeks," the site reads. "Some people develop severe dengue and need care in a hospital. In severe cases, dengue can be fatal."
The TikTok star developed pneumonia as a result of the fever.
Jainer's health only worsened when he developed pneumonia. He was hospitalized in Bagua, where doctors later discovered fluid surrounding his lungs. The TikTok star was transferred to a larger health facility in Chiclayo. On August 14, he was put on mechanical ventilation and he later suffered respiratory arrest, which was caused by fluid reaccumulating in his lungs.
