It seems like just yesterday that the world was awaiting the arrival of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s first child. But then we blinked, and somehow, Prince George is 12 years old and looking more grown up – and more like his dad – than ever. In honor of George’s birthday on July 22, 2025, the royals shared a new portrait of George on social media, celebrating the start of his last year before he officially becomes a teenager. Where has the time gone?
The photo was shared on Will and Kate’s official account.
In the photo, which was taken by photographer Josh Shinner, George is dressed casually in a button-down shirt under a fleece vest as he grins at the camera. Notably, George seems to be wearing a friendship bracelet around his wrist – maybe one given to him by younger sister Princess Charlotte, who’s been known to create them recently?
“Happy 12th Birthday to Prince George!” reads the caption on the photo, alongside a birthday cake emoji.
People can’t get over just how much he looks like his dad.

The comments are filled with comparisons between George and William, which only seem to have become more common as he gets older.
“Happy Birthday Prince George! You look more like your Dad every year!” one of their followers wrote.
Looking back at photos of William at his age like this one really makes it clear just how much the father and son look alike, though we can definitely see Kate’s features peeking through, too.
The royals also shared a video of George with his siblings.
In this adorable footage, George is filmed outdoors with younger siblings Charlotte and Prince Louis set to a soundtrack of classical music. All of them look so happy to be spending time together and can be heard giggling over the music while they take photos (especially one where Charlotte and George are both attempting to hold Louis in their arms).
These three are too cute!
This year will be a big one for George.
As People pointed out, when George returns to school in September, it will be his last year at Lambrook School with Charlotte and Louis – and most likely the last year all three of them will ever attend the same school. After he turns 13, George will reportedly begin school at Eton College, where his dad (and uncle Prince Harry) attended as teens.
Happy birthday, George! We can’t wait to see what this year holds for you.
